Offering a young man or woman a free scholarship in exchange for their athletic service is not slavery.  It is a choice and commitment they make. Unfortunately certain student athletes chose to take an easy route by taking stupid and non essential (or unmarketable) degrees.  Which yes if they don't make the pro's is a waste of time but they made the choice.. They certainly can use their scholarship to become whatever they want but chose not to so the devaluing of a scholarship is on them. Scholarship athletes are not a victim here if anything the kids who aren't given a scholarship or accepted to the school on academic merit are..

Yeah they are getting roughly $100,000 in free education, healthcare, food, housing and clothes for 4 years. And the opportunity to earn a degree that could benefit them for the rest of their life. In exchange for playing the game they love. And hell half of them barely even play. Lol. They just sit on the sidelines as backups their whole career.

Over 4 years it is easily double this amount. Even an in-state public, depending on the state, will run $40K/year all in. For private or OOS universities it’s insane. My son is off to college next year so I unfortunately am well aware of the ridiculous cost.
