West Monroe is a shell of its former self... we are very average at best these days

Just 5 years ago West Monroe was 14-1 and number #59 in the nation. West Monroe has been close a couple other times as well.

Lost in the 5A State Championship by 3 points that year.

West Monroe's a little bit better than average even today especially with their facilities and amount of players they have on the roster.

Most people in South Louisiana know West Monroe is always a threat to go to the Dome.

This might not be West Monroe Glory Years football, but then that goes for 500 other teams in the nation.

I appreciate the respect but WM is on a downward spiral,  trust me. We take a little further step back every season and with the current powers at WM I don't expect that to change.  Last year we lost at home in the 1st round of the playoffs to a team that was .500.  I predict this year we will finish 4th in our own district and will be lucky to even make the playoffs

West Monroe is probably never going to win another piece of a myth National Championship like lots of teams that have won a piece of one in the past. That's reserved nowadays for 5, 6 or maybe 7 schools...... much like college football.

It certainly doesn't mean WM can't put a quality team on the field with quality players though.

WM just needs to find the right coach and get with the times.

Maybe the new guy this year???

The Trinity Trojan from Texas is another squad that's playing with a limp these days.

They're definitely not what they used to be and  they are going through some of the same things West Monroe is currently going through.

Getting with the times and finding that right guy.

You still have to beat them though.

I would suggest that if a team is #59 in the country then they probably wouldn't have lost to Zachary.

Zachary was 13-2 losing to Catholic (Baton Rouge) 31-30 and  Zachary got thumped pretty good by D2 Power State Champ U-High (Baton Rouge).

John Curtis was #1 here in 2018...... was very little doubt about that.

West Monroe was #2 even with the loss.... they were basically 8-1 vs Top 1000 teams and notched a couple OOS wins......much better than just "average".

1 Curtis [John] (River Ridge, LA)   team preview   trend Louisiana 5A District 9 I 13-0 6-0 (1st) 9-0 69.7 42.6 93-65
WINS: #140 Easton [Warren] (New Orleans, LA) (38-20), #147 Catholic (Baton Rouge, LA) (49-7), #184 Evangel Christian Academy (Shreveport, LA) (56-34), #234 Archbishop Rummel (Metairie, LA) (44-21), #328 Bishop Lynch (Dallas, TX) (21-14), #477 Jesuit (New Orleans, LA) (27-14), #477 Jesuit (New Orleans, LA) (23-0), #480 Brother Martin (New Orleans, LA) (45-16), #730 Landry-Walker (New Orleans, LA) (42-18), #799 St. Augustine (New Orleans, LA) (58-22), #1088 Holy Cross (New Orleans, LA) (46-21), #2256 Parkview Baptist (Baton Rouge, LA) (21-0), #3399 Archbishop Shaw (Marrero, LA) (29-3), LOSSES: none

That was another one of those embarrassing years where John Curtis got to handpick the worst team at the battle of the border event. And they still almost lost to some dud tapps team

The last season a NJ public school was ranked in the USA Today poll was 2000… Greg Toal with Hackensack.

Olsen’s Wayne Hills stint was probably the closest public school to landing a top 25 since.
@Omaha Vol and @whiteshoes would know best.

Forget MNC, I doubt you’ll see a NJ public school in a top 25 anytime soon.
Even top 100 would be a surprise.

Well, that's what I was referring to when I brought up 2018.

I said they've been close to winning State a couple times since 2011.

It's not a big deal.

The devastating part of that loss to Zachary in 2018 was West Monroe was ahead with 2 minutes left in the game and Zachary 4* WR Chris Hilton took a screen pass 80 yards to the house with a little over a minute left.

Chris Hilton will be a starter this year at WR for LSU and the next Superstar at that position.

Remember the name!

That had to have been hard for West Monroe fans.

Me and my man @Atticus Finchcould probably put together a 2024 Preseason Top 25 right NOW....and would probably be just a couple teams off either way.

Maybe I'll do one later this week and just see how far I'm off. I don't even know who's playing who yet, but it doesn't even really matter.

Linwood Main Regional made a strong push for Top 100 inclusion last season.   Other NJ public's that were on my radar last season are Old Tappan NV- Old Tappan, Tom's River North, Wayne Passaic County Tech, and Millville.
