Theoretically, its not just a NorCal problem. SoCal would have the same problem if the 2nd best team came out of the LA Section or San Diego Section. Since the 2nd best team has always been in D1/Pac-5 of the Southern Section, the issue has never come up because those teams play each other. The SS includes the top 8 teams from the south and all 3 of the national power (Cen10, Bosco and MD). In the north DLS plays in the North Coast Section (2) and Folsom plays in the SAC-JOAQUIN section (3). If they don’t play each other during the preseason (non-League) they will not meet up since there is no Open Division regional games anymore.
