I see that point. But somehow I felt that this time was going to be somewhat different. Kim is a young guy. I though, somehow, that he may have been more open to giving concessions in exchange for economic benefits. I though, also, that China was putting some degree of pressure on him to make some concessions. 

Is it possible that recent USA pronouncements from the White House may have given him pause to reconsider? Could the withdrawal from the Iran deal have impacted his thinking (I am not here referencing the terms of this deal, but the concept that the USA will unilaterally tear up deals when new administrations are in place)?

I think China is full of shit too. I see Trump backpedaling on them also. We killed ZTE because we felt like they were helping China spy on US citizens (I say we, I mean the government) and now Trump is bowing to them, and gonna help them get back going, or that's what he tweeted. Un was never going to give up his actual nukes. It's the only bargaining chip he has. I don't believe China is putting the pressure on them that we were lead to believe either.

I would certainly think the Iran deal getting tossed plays into this. Why would any country enter into a contract like that with us ever again? Next election the new guy might throw it in the trash. 

The military training we were doing there may be troublesome to them, but it's probably just an excuse to start leveraging us. Pretty stupid move on our part anyway, considering they were supposedly softening. Then we go flying bombers and what not all around them. Stupid.

I agree. Once you have nukes, why would you ever give them up? They are the ultimate deterrent.

We also agree on the making deals issue. If a deal is for only as long as the current sitting President, why would any enemy or competitor state strike an important deal with us?

Finally, we agree again. the military training was probably used as an excuse by Kim to back out of the deal. However, I do agree that going into important talks with another county, they were ill timed and could have waited till after talks collapsed. 

Again, I am disappointed that things are where they are. I guess I was naive to think that we could have peace on the peninsular.

Maybe there can still be peace between North and South Korea. I'm not totally ruling that out. I mean there actually has been peace there for quite some time anyway. Just a lot of tension to go along with it is all.

I didn’t believe a single word Trump said during the campaign.   He said whatever he suited him at the moment - “We’ve always been at war with Eurasia” if you will.

We are not invading Iran, either.  Just exercising common sense.

And Cuba poses no threat and is so close and small that once we gain a secure economic foothold I see our economy, culture, technology, even political ideals overwhelming it and leading to democratization at some point.
