*teams will not be considered to be in a Tier until they score a point ( if they have played a game).

Below is an explanation of the Methodolgy used to place the teams on various Tiers.  The Tier concept recognizes that W/L records are a function of quality of opponent, and as such, RELEVANCY of opponent MUST be factored in.  The Tiers recognizes that in some cases, a 10-0 team (ranked in Top 100 by some outlets) could get blown off the field by a 5-5 (unranked) team that played a tougher schedule.  This is why the Tiers was created.

*Not attempting to rank every team, only the ones we discuss on this site.

* The Tiers are fluid and subject to extreme fluctuations early in the year, leveling out as the year progresses.

*Tier placements consider a teams entire body of work, however are weighted heaviest on recent games and game weights decrease in significance in reverse order.  In other words, early road OOS losses to relevant teams can be overcome as the season progresses.

*Teams placed on the same Tier can compete with other same Tier teams and possibly win 2+ of 10.

*Basically there is a -10 point drop between tiers.  Could vary from a TD to 3 scores depending on the styles of teams playing.  This does not necessarily mean that there is a 30 point difference between Tier 1 and Tier 3, only that the chances of a Tier 3 team beating a Tier 1 team are exponentially less than the chances of a Tier 2 Team beating a Tier 1 team.

*The Tiers will ultimately be made up of (16) teams per Tier that would form competitive playoff brackets.

*Texas teams generally have not played enough OOS games to gauge properly #crapshoot.  There must be a daisy chain OOS connection for a reference point.  Teams with no OOS daisy chain connection may not be placed on a Tier.  (Texas exempt)

*Tiers are based on exhaustive research, Multiple games watched, and good gut feelings.

*This is a crowd sourced rating. All input will be considered and adjustments will be made as appropriate

SFA makes the whole thing trash can material.

Explain the methodology placing them in tier two.

You know what... nevermind. Trash can material. I remember now why I haven't stopped by this thread in a couple of weeks.

xD

You know what Hawg.....You are right F-SFA.  They are going to Tier 4 until they play someone.

I'm not sure IMG has earned its way into Tier 1. They lost to a team that suffered a blowout loss of its own. And where are the marquee wins?

Hey they almost beat MD...that makes them great despite playing no one else in the top 200...it's the least impressive IMG team in years, but that hurts Sammy's narrative so that they're Tier 1 for life.

Watch their film

No need to watch film i saw them live and i can think of at least 10 teams who would have no problem beating IMG and about 20 more toss ups

Their best win to this point is a toss up between Pine Richland (who just lost in state this past week)  and Middletown (a DELAWARE team)

I have to be honest it feels like IMG is being ranked on reputation alone because their resume this year is pathetic

Yeah they lost to only elite team on regular season schedule

Not to mention the preseason ass kicking at a FL public

I seem to recall stating that IMG in the off-season wasn't as strong as 2016 team and they have slowly declined since that team

Last year team wasn't as strong as 2016 and this year is a decline from last year team

IMG - 1 loss and no wins vs teams ranked in the top 200 (plus the preseason embarrassment)= Tier 1

SJC - undefeated with 6 wins vs teams in the top 100 (4 in top 50) = Tier 2

If Sammy's tiers ever had any credibility it's gone now...lol

Makes sense.

If IMG and SJC somehow met after the season, for instance at the GEICO tournament; who do you think would win and why?

Why don't you schedule IMG in the regular season next season?

We have tried to play them in regular season, this was 3rd year in a row we tried to get IMG for a game

If IMG wants to come to Lake City then maybe we can make something happen but we aren't the ones who got embarrassed in this game so why would we give in,  columbia holds all the cards

If IMG wants a rematch they can do it on our terms because they need it more than us

SJC

they have proven they can actually beat a nationally elite team this year

IMy thinking is that SJC would have beaten them had they actually met, but IMG may be getting stronger as the season goes on and the transfers get acclimated to each other.  SJC's defense has problems with good potent and balanced offenses, like Christian Brothers and MC's.  If IMG had a good QB and a good passing game to go with their running game, then I would favor IMG.

But IMG's passing game is suspect, and SJC might stack the box and make the IMG offense one dimensional.

Either way, I'd still like to see this game happen.
