Gonna happen here too, if/or when we run out of beds. This is why we are having to deal with social distancing and stuff. I know folks think it's an infringement on their rights and freedoms, but, look at you here. Think about it. You don't want to be infringed upon, nor do you like the thought of what it may cause if we don't change our actions. Someone is going to be making these same type decisions here too. Socialized medicine or not, we still only have so many beds. The difference here is, people with insurance or money will get the bed when the working poor and uninsured won't.

If you were drowing in a vat of bacon in a container made of bacon on a planet made of bacon in a facility made of bacon that produces bacon, you still wouldn't have enough bacon. Bacon... What you are talking about is triage and it exists regardless of the whether it is socialistic medicine or capitalistic medicine. In capitalistic medicine you can be sure that the rich will somehow get a ventilator over the average Joe. In socialistic medicine the average Joe has a better chance. Triage usually defers to younger people and is understandable that a 40 year old will be given preference for treatment over an 85 year old. It is an attempt to do what is best overall. In triage, doctors not politicians make the choice, so no the government isn't making the choice who will and will not be tested, although in any system some will slip thru the cracks and the American capitalistic system has a lot of built in corruption. 1

Not necessarily all true. Socialistic medical systems are notorious for things like wait times and bed shortages. They also famously employ things like QALY (Quality Adjusted Life Years) in their treatment decisions, which you touch on a bit above. Healthy folks of productive, working age get preference. The old and the very young can actually get pushed down the list. Potentially way down the list. This is not doctor's decision. It is a bureaucratic/economic one. And saying the American system is the corrupt one? A purely partisan pot shot. Having lived under both systems, I'm glad I'm here.

DevilDog
GOP senator says China 'to blame' for coronavirus spread because of 'culture where people eat bats and snakes and dogs' https://www.yahoo.com/news/gop-senator-says-china-blame-213159255.html Would someone tell this fool he eats an animal that eats dead dogs and dead Rats. 🤣 And the Swine Flu comes from an animal he eats. Stupid Hypocrite. WASHINGTON — Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, drew a backlash on social media and from Asian American advocates on Wednesday for claiming China was "to blame" for the spread of the coronavirus because of a "culture where people eat bats and snakes and dogs and things like that." 'These viruses are transmitted from the animal to the people and that's why China has been the source of a lot of these viruses like SARS, like MERS, the Swine flu, and now the coronavirus, so I think they have a fundamental problem, the Texas Republican said to reporters, saying he did not object to a geographic name for the virus. Even a Rattlesnake can't kill that poisonous beast. Swine is like more venom please.

The U.S. began to restrict flights from China four days later.
