But I am just a Third World boy. Plenty of people out here are going the xeriscape route, where water and maintenance become much less necessary. Being a high altitude desert, water is vital for green lawns/gardens, so the alternative is that Southwestern look you like. I grew up running around playing games in the yard, and prefer a lawn. Much better if a croquet match breaks out at our house (hasn't happened yet, but just in case).
