There's no denying they're exceptional, but realistically, how do we know? The traditional 6A powers are pretty much all down compared to the last several seasons, and this is most certainly Westlake's best team. Most of the polls are lazy in that they automatically plug in an undefeated Texas 6a champ at #2. if MD didn’t play DV, everyone knows DV would be ranked higher than Westlake due to SOS and hype. DV would be #1 or #2 if they didn’t play err get boat raced by The Stache If Westlake played SFA, MD, etc then WL would have a loss too. This is the worst Katy team I’ve ever seen and the best from Westlake. Katy has zero quality victories and on top of getting blown out last week had three wins by a touchdown or less. They are clearly still a good team, but nowhere near top 25. Westlake looks amazing because they’re very good and because they’ve played zero nationally relevant teams. Nor will they this year. There are probably 50 teams that would be undefeated with that schedule. And as good as they may be, they have two scholarship players (one only has Indiana as a P5 offer) on a defense that goes 220lbs up front and their backers don’t even average 200lbs and aren’t particularly athletic. The offense is elite, and so is the defense… against Akins and San Marcos, that is. They can score on anyone in the country enough to win a game, but that defense would get absolutely steamrolled by any of the top teams. They’re giving up 80+ pounds to offensive lines loaded with top talent on a national level. No one is basing their TX assessment off of their district opponents.
