Democrats hoped to win a seat to bring them closer to control of Texas lower house. GOP candidate won by 16 points. Outperformed Trump in 2016 and way outperformed the GOP guy who won in 2018 (and then retired). The Democrats were counting on suburbs to flip Texas and Georgia this year. This guy doubled the MOV of the last guy who won the seat With 100 percent of Election Day results in, Gates won 58 percent of the vote, roughly doubling the margin of victory recorded in 2018 by Republican John Zerwas, the seat’s prior occupant.
