SEC has had a team in the title game 13 out of the past 14 years.

That is impressive...the SEC is clearly the top conference. Also impressive is the rise from out of nowhere to national prominence by Clemson. No team (including Alabama) has had more success the past five years. Even if they lose to LSU they will have two championships, two runner ups and a semifinal loss. Alabama also has two and two but this year missed the playoffs. And if Clemson beats LSU it would be three national championships, a runner up and a semifinal loss over the past 5 seasons that no one can come close to.

Name another conference that can make the same claim...

We patiently await.

I was just telling someone this about 2 minutes ago somewhere else

You realize it is possible for all the conferences to be weak overall right? Lol

Other conferences being worse don't mean one conference with better top heavy teams is great, only that it's better than the rest

Yeah the SEC has had a good run with a total of 5 teams doing all the work but just because every other conference sucks overall don't mean the SEC is great overall, only that they are better than other garbage conferences

Being better than the rest only means just that, it doesn't always mean they are great

Just admit what you said was off base ("SEC sucks, they only have 5 good teams"), or don't say anything at all. When you feel compelled to dig your heels in and defend everything that comes from your keyboard, you just get deeper and deeper and look more like a stubborn kid than an aspiring analyst.

I will say that top 5 in the SEC is the best of any of the conferences out there

However the conference as a whole is not strong, once you get past those 5 it's nothing you can't find in any other conference bottom half

Does that fit that "aspiring analyst" description better?

Sounds like it would be damn near impossible for any conference, ever, to be considered strong in your book. The only other poster who comes across as having such highfalutin metrics  in giving credit (or more importantly not giving credit) is your pal canes/los guru. Congrats.

Would you then not agree that the SEC overall was much stronger earlier this decade and had more depth than they do now?

As I keep telling people

Does the other conferences being bad really make the SEC good?

Comparatively... Yes.

Everything can't be bad. That's Los Guru mess. If we say something sucks, it must suck in comparison to something other than some weird thing we have in our mind that nobody else has in order to use as a comparison.

If the other conferences are worse than the SEC, and the SEC is the only comparitive tool, then, yes, the SEC is good in comparison to the others. If you are comparing the SEC to the NFL West, then, the SEC is bad, but, it makes no sense to make that comparison. It also doesn't make a lot of sense to compare generationally either. We currently have all the conferences in the present. Why compare them to ten years ago to bolster a present argument today?

It only makes sense to compare all the D1 conferences to each other in the present. All the D2 conferences together in the present and etc.
