CT Department of Public Health has now written the CIAC with their own recommendations:

I have a feeling this is going to be the case a lot. Already seen it happen in PA and a few other states.

MaxPreps now saying at least 3 positive cases in the Bingham outbreak. I wonder if each new positive test on days after the first positive restarts the 14-day quarantine period.

I wonder why they got tested. Were they showing symptoms or was there some pregame testing system in place midweek? Just temperature checks? Etc.

Sounds like it was two brothers who became symptomatic. Positive tests came on Sunday but health department let them continue practicing while contact tracing, which sounds really dumb to me. Contract tracing led to a 3rd positive test. HC says they've tested 90 of 170 people in their program and planned on returning to practice today and playing next week. Sounds like MaxPreps was wrong (surprise) about the 14 day quarantine.

Interesting tidbit is that the UT Health Department wants schools to close when 15 people or 10% of a school (whichever is lower) test positive. There will be a lot of school closures in that case.

Man I would love for it work, but that seems like such a reach for this year.

Seems like folks are dead set to go at it in spite of all the data from school openings and etc. We have a lot of free will but not enough common sense to understand how to temper it.

Local paper headline... Big Bold Headline... Covid Cases On The Decline In Colquitt County. Wait until 2 weeks from that headline. xD

We are just now finishing recovering from the Independence Day weekend celebrations. Now that new big headline means to some, "It's Gone! LEGGO! TURN DOWN FOR WHAT?!"

What is the Georgia contingency plan If the season goes 2-3 weeks and then gets shut down? 2021 winter re-start with less games?
What have they said about length of season and playoffs in that event? I dont see kids playing 3-4 games in the fall, shutting down for a few months then coming back for a potential 15 games season in the winter.

It just seems this scenario is a potential reality for anyone playing this fall (HS, CFB and NFL) and curious what their plans are.

No clue. That article says they have contingency planS. I guess they have all the info and we are on a need to know basis.

Fulton postpones sports until Sept. 14
Fulton County Schools on Thursday postponed all sports competitions until Sept. 14, two weeks after the GHSA’s first scheduled football games.

Fulton County Schools athletic director Steven Craft made the announcement after a meeting involving almost every metro Atlanta school system superintendent.

The meeting, held virtually, was designed to gauge where metro Atlanta school districts stood on starting football as scheduled the week of Sept. 4 and potentially forming a consensus to delay or stay the course.

The broader significance of Fulton’s move remains to be seen. It could foretell similar moves by other metro Atlanta districts, or it could signal that most will start on time, as only Fulton made an immediate move to delay, and it acted independently.

Craft is a member of the GHSA’s board of trustees, which voted to postpone the first games by two weeks into September. GHSA executive director Robin Hines reaffirmed his desire to stay on schedule Wednesday after his weekly meeting with his sports medicine advisory council.

Fulton’s football teams are Alpharetta, Banneker, Cambridge, Centennial, Chattahoochee, Creekside, Johns Creek, Hapeville Charter, Hughes, Milton, North Springs, Northview, Riverwood, Roswell, Tri-Cities and Westlake. They are allowed to practice.

Bibb’s schools suspend competitions
The Bibb County School District in Macon, which has six GHSA members, suspended sports competitions indefinitely Thursday and said schools would begin Sept. 8 with virtual-only learning through October. Bibb County athletic director Barney Hester told GHSF Daily that sports teams may continue to practice. Bibb’s schools are Central, Howard, Northeast, Rutland, Southwest and Westside.

Our Lady drops football schedule
Our Lady of Mercy, a private school in Fayetteville, won’t play football this season, the GHSA confirmed Thursday. Our Lady is the sixth Class A school to drop off the GHSA’s football schedule, joining Calhoun County, Twiggs County, Stewart County, Riverside Military and Pinecrest Academy. Pinecrest chose to play eight-man football in another association. Our Lady has reached the playoffs four times since starting football in 2001 but finished 0-10 the past two seasons.

West Virginia's policy:

If a county is green, there will be less than seven cases per 100,000 people. They will be permitted to continue athletic and extracurricular activities with fans and limited tickets.

For yellow, there are 8-15 cases per 100,000 people. Masks will be required in populated areas where social distancing is limited. However, athletic and extracurricular activities are allowed with spectators and limited tickets.

Should a county be labeled orange, that indicates there are 16-24 cases per 100,000 people. Masks will be required for graded 3-5 in congregant settings and grades 6 and above must wear protective face coverings at all times. As a result, athletic and extracurricular activities will be limited to controlled practices and activities only.

If a red label is given to a county, 25 or more cases are prevalent per 100,000 people. In-person instruction and all school-related activities will be suspended until the yellow level is met for a 7-day rolling basis. Thus, schools will resort to remote learning. All athletic and extracurricular activities will be stopped until the yellow level is met for a 7-day rolling basis.

The WVSSAC will work with schools to determine how many fans will permitted to attend sporting events.

https://www.wdtv.com/2020/08/14/wvssac-outlines-how-dhhr-map-applies-to-athletics/

At the moment I think three counties would fall into the orange or red categories.

CT is now "pausing" all in person activities thru 8/24. They are currently scheduled to start practice on 9/11 but the CT health department wants them to move to spring.

PA is also on pause and will meet again on 8/21 with representatives from the governors office since the PIAA wanted to start fall sports on time and the governor doesn't want HS sports until at least January.

New week, new map. Rhode Island is the only state that hasn't come up with some sort of plan that I can find.

Thanks for updating this list! You are doing a great job. And honestly if you left out the least important 25 states such as RI, ID, DE. etc. it really would not matter much.

This pic is from an intersquad scrimmage at Stephenville HS in Texas from this past week.

UIL is mandating 50% capacity for games this year, don't see that happening/being enforced.

Texas has no fear. The Game of the Year in high school football is IMG at Duncanville in Arlington on October 9th.

They don’t seem too bright. Maybe the other sideline is empty. They might have just crammed the 50% into one side 😂.
