No announcements anywhere about them delaying practice but I also can't find anything on social media about them starting practice, which is supposed to begin Monday. 93CardinalsFan
Unless I am misreading this, I think you can add Ohio to the list of schools moving forward with a normal start date. True, scrimmages between schools have been cancelled, at this point. However, we will start on time and plan to play a full schedule this fall. https://twitter.com/OHSAASports/status/1289263540117753859?s=20 -93CardinalsFan
Severino
In Ohio, the OHSAA continues to say fall sports are going forward as planned with practice starting today (Aug. 1) even though scrimmages and games between schools in football, soccer, field hockey and cross country are prohibited by Governor's order. Only volleyball, golf and tennis can proceed as usual. One by one, school districts are making their own decision to cancel all fall sports and extra-curricular activities. OHSAA's backup plan is for condensed seasons from December to June.
eaglesinsider
Being the board's resident expat I obviously tend to follow European news pretty closely. I have some news from Germany, which has done about 1000x better at dealing with COVID than the US, that doesn't bode well for a full football season being played. The German Football League, which is the best quality, best funded and best attended football league outside of North America, has cancelled their already postponed season set to begin in September. The reasoning being that cases are starting to tick up again in Germany and the German government, who again is managing COVID very well, is still not allowing full team practices or spectators in the stadiums. They are also mandating that everyone on the team tests before beginning practices and then test weekly starting in the week prior to the first game. Austria has had their league, which probably trails only Germany in terms of quality and funding, reduced to 2 teams for the same reasons. They will play each other 5 times this fall. European football is very comparable to college/high school football in the states in regards to the challenges posed with COVID. All native players are working jobs and/or going to school. They can't be isolated from the communities in the way that professional athletes can. 1
eaglesinsider
MPSSAA (MD public schools) postpones all fall AND winter sports scheduled in the first semester (which runs through the end of January) with no plans for a delayed or rescheduled season announced. This means MD public schools can't start practice in any sport until Feb. 1 which realistically means it'll be into March before games are played.

The only change as of August 1st is that what had been a weekly extension of the order was changed to indefinitely. Plus cross country was removed from the list of contact sports.

HawgGoneIt
Per the Georgia High School Football Daily newsletter and the AJC... GHSA to discuss renewed concerns The Georgia High School Association will discuss the Georgia Department of Public Health commissioner’s concerns about fall sports Wednesday when executive director Robin Hines has his weekly meeting with his sports-medicine advisory committee. Dr. Kathleen Toomey told superintendents Friday on a Zoom call that she was concerned about the COVID-19 risks involved in football, competition cheerleading, band and chorus. “I felt like the meeting was informative, and I appreciate Dr. Toomey taking the time to share with our superintendents her thoughts on reopening schools,” Hines said Monday. “As a result, it’s certainly increased the communication between the GHSA and the Department of Public Health. We look forward to working with them.” According to officials in Gov. Brian Kemp’s administration, Toomey did not explicitly say that football or any sport should not be played. She said that certain sports, such as tennis and golf, made it easier to maintain social distance. The GHSA does not coordinate band or chorus, and tennis and golf are spring sports, so only football and competitive cheer would be immediately pertinent to the association. https://www.ajc.com/sports/high-school-sports-blog/ghsa-to-discuss-health-commissioners-concerns/T7M5LCJTNRA53PQ5GUWPSFFG5A/

HawgGoneIt
We are entering into whatever semblance of a football season we are going to be having this year. It's time to clean up the political bullshit and take it to the OT section where it belongs. Nobody outside of a couple of loons on here give a shit how a state voted in the last election as it pertains to looking after kids and subsequently their families' safety. Clean it up or I'll do it for us. There's a couple of antagonists causing 90 percent of the issues. I can fix that. 3

eaglesinsider
I wonder how many states starting "on time" will end up like Alaska where barley more than 1/4 of teams are practicing right now. PA will probably move to spring tomorrow. FL is headed towards winter football. Will be interested to see how TX and OH do. I know some large school districts in both states will probably play either shortened seasons or not at all.
