Where Would You Recruit?

This is meant to be a fun exercise.  You are a college fb coach and have to build your team with players from ONLY one state.  Unfortunately, all of the Texas players are locked up.  Lucky for you, you can have all of the players listed below from either Florida, California or Georgia.  The purpose of this exercise is to see which of those three states(at least this year) produces the best all-around talent that one could use to build a legitimate college contender.  This exercise excludes IMG Academy since their kids come from all over the country.  If IMG happened to be in South Dakota I doubt many of you would proclaim SD to be the best state for producing hsfb talent  LOL

Below are the senior players from each state in the ESPN 300.  All are 4 or 5-star players.  Their rank in the ESPN 300 is listed to the left of their name.  I've included the weights of some players so you can see which players might have the potential to grow.  Rank FL, CA and GA from #1 to #3 with #1 being the state whose talent you would most like to inherit to build a complete college team.  And explain your rationale.  Sure, kickers are huge part of the game, but let's assume for purposes of the exercise you could get a good kicker in each state.

For all of the analytical types and frustrated attorneys out there, try not to overthink this.  Have fun.🙂  I believe there are some some interesting observations to be made when comparing the states.  For some perspective, CA has about 40 million people, TX has about 30 million people , FL has about 22 million people, and GA has about 11 million people.

FL (QB possibly only concern and unlikely with so many to choose from given this exercise)

GA (all around can’t go wrong… speed, athleticism, line play)

CA (QB a big plus and all around covered)

A good judge of talent and seeing future 0-2 stars becoming blue chip talents, along with the mega talent in each of these states… any of the top 3 will do.

As far as building depth at every position?  If TX is out, I’d probably lean towards GA/CA coin flip and FL 3rd.

Ranked by who? Some pencil neck journalist type who never played football at some tee shirt and shorts Olympics lol   No thanks if I'm running my team I will rank the players myself.  Full game film no highlight reel bullshit. .lol

Can you also list the 2 and 3 stars who are available as well?

I think that would be a real/true picture on how most smart coach will build there team. Need to see some of the Aaron Rodgers /Antonio Brown type guys as well if I’m compiling a team. Need Ken depth and reality. Unless you are says Saban you are mot gonna get just all too 300 guys. Seems very unrealistic.

That sounds like a wonderful exercise for someone else.  🙂  Just kidding...it's a lot of work.

Of course this is unrealistic and a bit silly.  It's purpose is simply to give us a very rough idea of the breadth of talent available in the different states.

What gets me is this.

Every year Texas, Florida, and California have 4-5 5*, 25-40 4*, 100 3*, BUT every year they have the same amount drafted in the NFL Draft...

I already know the totals for 2022 NFL Draft.

Florida 31 drafted

Texas 29 drafted

California 20 drafted (they have been sliding back)

Explain that to me.......😀

If you want to save money on Hotels, Gas, Food and NOT waste your time...it's a real no-brainer.

Ask Nick Saban> not only a great recruiter, he's great with money.

Greetings from Louisiana.jpg

LA is amazing.  16 kids on the ESPN 300 from a state with less than 5 million people.  From a per capita standpoint, they undoubtedly rank near the top in terms of talent richness.

It's not just that it's the 0* and 2* players from Louisiana doing big things in the NFL along with the 3* players.

WR Justin Jefferson, a 2*

RB Eli Mitchel, a 0*

Really??

Louisiana is NFL ready!

Per capita D1 recruits, this is from the latest NCAA study on this. I don't think much has changed

Obviously the total is a numbers game.. more players=more D1=more NFL Which obviously the states with the most players will have more at the next levels

Image

Louisiana, Georgia and Florida look pretty strong.
