The Republican National Committee (RNC) alerted the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) on Thursday that it plans to require GOP presidential nominees not to attend debates run by the commission going forward.

"The RNC will initiate the process of amending the Rules of the Republican Party at our upcoming Winter Meeting to prohibit future Republican nominees from participating in CPD-sponsored debates," wrote Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel in the letter, which was obtained by The Hill.

McDaniel said GOP voters "have lost trust" in the commission and noted that the RNC has proposed a number of reforms to the debate process.

"Unfortunately, neither the tone nor substance of your latest response inspires confidence that the CPD will meaningfully address the serious issues which the RNC has raised," she said.

If the RNC moves to change its rules, the pullout would mark one of the greatest changes in the history of U.S. presidential debates.

McDaniel detailed the timeline of the RNC's communications with the commission, which included a letter from the committee in June and discussions between the commission's co-chair Frank Fahrenkopf and David Bossie, the chair of the RNC's temporary presidential debates committee.

Fahrenkopf served as RNC chairman in the 1980s.

McDaniel said the commission's response to the list of demands from the RNC "so far seem designed to delay any reform until it is too late to matter for the 2024 election."

The Commission on Presidential Debates responded in a statement on Thursday, noting that it "deals directly with candidates for president and vice president who qualify for participation."

"The C.P.D.'s plans for 2024 will be based on fairness, neutrality and a firm commitment to help the American public learn about the candidates and the issues," the commission said.

According to the RNC's letter, the CPD pushed back on the RNC's request to appoint a nonvoting observer from the RNC or Democratic National Committee to attend its board meetings.

"In furtherance of our position as a nonpartisan, neutral body, which neither favors nor disfavors any party or candidate, we do not negotiate the terms or conditions of our operations with anyone," a letter from the commission, obtained by The New York Times, read.

This is not the first time Republicans have voiced criticism about the commission. Most recently, former President Trump complained that moderators in the 2020 presidential debates were biased against him, while in 2016 he singled out one of the commission's co-chair, Mike McCurry, for previously working as a press secretary in the Clinton administration.

They are calling out obvious bias from the commission. You are criticizing them for not wanting to debate the opponent and the moderator.

Bullshit....the commission is very respected and noted for being non-partisan...it's sign of weakness and only adds to the political divisions we have in America....it's bad move by the Republicans they will regret.

Sen. Mitt Romney says the Republican National Committee 'would be nuts' to block GOP candidates from participating in presidential debates

  • The RNC is preparing to ban future GOP presidential candidates from participating in debates.

  • Sen. Mitt Romney blasted the plans, telling Insider that it's "nuts."

  • "The American people want to see candidates for president debating issues of consequence to them," he said.

Republican Sen. Mitt Romney of Utah on Thursday blasted the Republican National Committee's plans to prohibit future GOP presidential candidates from participating in debates sponsored by the Commission on Presidential Debates.

Romney, the party's 2012 presidential nominee and the uncle of current RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, said the decision would deprive the American people of the opportunity to hear candidates "duke it out."

"Well, that would be nuts," Romney told Insider at the Capitol. "The American people want to see candidates for president debating issues of consequence to them, and it provides a service to the country and to the people, to hear the prospective candidates of the two major parties duke it out."

The New York Times first reported earlier Thursday that the RNC is preparing to amend its rules, and Insider obtained a letter from the party to the debate commission's co-chairs, Frank Fahrenkopf and Kenneth Wollack.

The RNC is concerned about the timing of the 2024 presidential debates, changes to debate procedures without prior notification to the parties, the selection of debate moderators who may represent an alleged conflict of interest, and failure to maintain nonpartisanship among the commission's board members, McDaniel wrote in the letter.

The nonpartisan debate commission has existed since 1987 and has sponsored presidential debates dating back to 1988. But Republicans have more recently argued that the commission is biased towards Democrats.

Romney told Insider he wasn't familiar with concerns that the commission isn't fair to Republicans.

The change hasn't taken effect yet, but an RNC pullout could lead to campaigns directly engaging with each other to set up debates or no debates at all, The Times reported.

McDaniel offered a range of proposals for the debate commission, including holding one presidential debate before early voting begins, implementing a code of conduct for the commission's members and staff, and establishing criteria for selecting debate moderators.

"The RNC has a duty to ensure that its future presidential nominees have the opportunity to debate their opponents on a level playing field," McDaniel wrote. "So long as the CPD appears intent on stonewalling the meaningful reforms necessary to restore its credibility with the Republican Party as a fair and nonpartisan actor, the RNC will take every step to ensure that future Republican presidential nominees are given that opportunity elsewhere."

The RNC's proposed rule to require future candidates to sign a pledge not to participate in the debates will be voted on at the committee's meeting in Utah next month, per The Times.

The White House on Thursday suggested the RNC was "afraid" of participating in debates.

"The president has participated in many debates over the course of his career and believes they play a role in allowing the American people to hear from candidates and where they stand," White House press secretary Jen Psaki said during Thursday's press briefing. "So I think it's a question best posed to the RNC on what they're so afraid of."

If you believe in Biden’s vision for America, then you should be begging for him to do live debates. It would show the country firsthand what he has in store.

All this bullshit this liberal kook wrote was more in fear of showing Biden’s true colors. They need him locked away from the public so he doesn’t show the world how mentally declined he really is. You can google Biden gaffes and see hours of bumbling and stumbling.

They are scared because they know Trump will force him to admit that he is for open borders, abolishing the police, socialism, and basically destroying the country. The people controlling the strings don’t want that to happen. That’s why they will sabotage a debate at all costs.

It is so bad for Slow Joe now that he is challenged to even follow a teleprompted message.

The left is looking to have him avoid Trump for several reasons.  His diminished mental faculties are clear and center.  Add in trying to defend the assault on law and order, which most Americans find appalling. Also add destroying America's energy independence and promoting the uber-retarded Green New Deal. Add in the risk of Slow Joe having to defend his rather chequered past on race and criminal justice legislation...

The left wants to ride home on the back of their control of the MSM and the online media oligarchy of Facebook, Google, Twitter etc.  Frankly, keeping Joe in the basement with his crayons is a good idea, as long as their media shills can keep the American public focused elsewhere.

It's actually a great move. Biden's people obviously have zero desire to put him on a debate stage. That's pretty clear.

This is basically a method for Biden to back out of debating and still blame Drumpf. Pretty clever TBH.

Idiot Boy,

You are the one accusing people of running scared. So, I repeat:

Given that the mid-terms are expected to give the Republicans control of both houses and that President Brandon and Willie Brown's chew toy both have approvals impressively in the toilet, what exactly are the Republicans running scared about?

Wanting debates to not be run overwhelmingly through left-leaning outlets is hardly "running scared". But you are, unsurprisingly, too stupid to grasp it.

Idiot Boy,

You can check virtually any site that makes an attempt to rate news/media outlets and apart from Fox news, the ones that do debates skew left. Even when a Fox News host has been used in one of the three debates (and that is not always the case), it has been Chris Wallace. A Democrat.

I'd say it'd be nice for you to have the slightest clue about this, but you never will because you are an idiot.

Andy of course won't be specific about what I'm supposedly being misleading about. Because I wasn't.

The point remains as regards presidential debates.

They are hosted by reps from major media and overwhelmingly by left-leaning major media (ABC/CBS/NBC/PBS/CNN...).

Andy is just spewing chaff out his ass. As per usual. His best retort is apparently that Chris Wallace is a registered Democrat supposedly because DC is a town run by Dems and that makes life easier as a journalist.  Simply a diversion from the fundamental point mentioned above. Andy will, of course, try to make it all about Wallace.

What questions have you found unacceptably biased?  Both candidates have to answer same questions.

Truth is there is no media outlet/journalist that you feel comfortable with and that is because you do not stand for anything and instead are just opposed to everything.

Kamala Harris So Disliked Nation Considering Hillary Clinton
January 14th, 2022 - BabylonBee.com

article-10312-1.jpg

WASHINGTON, D.C.—Recent national indicators have hinted that the Biden Administration may not be as popular as hoped. These revelations have forced strategists for the Democrat party to face the truth that Vice President Kamala Harris is so disliked, the nation would rather consider Hillary Clinton.

“National polls, which never lie, have shown that Americans would prefer Hillary Clinton over Kamala Harris, which is pretty bad,” said political pollster Stanlip Bilksmear, “Even more disturbing, they both polled worse than ‘The propped up corpse of serial killer John Wayne Gacy.’ That wasn’t even an option in our poll; Americans wrote it in.”
