Fox shareholders lost $85 million last quarter. The home to Fox broadcast network, Fox News, Fox Sports and Tubi considers the three-month period ending Dec. 31 to be its second (fiscal) quarter of the year.

Wall Street expected Fox to report Q2 2022 earnings per share (EPS) of 4 cents on $4.26 billion in revenue, according to a consensus of media analysts’ estimates. Fox actually reported a net loss of 15 cents per share on $4.44 billion in revenue. With some key adjustments, excluding the losses from its affiliates, Fox was able to report adjusted earnings per share of 13 cents and adjusted net income of $77 million.

All told, Fox’s revenue rose 9% from the same quarter last year, with cable, broadcast and Tubi all pitching in. Advertising revenue was up 6% to $2.4 billion and affiliate revenues increased 11% to nearly $1.7 billion. Unfortunately, expenses climbed as well.

That durn sun, always messing shit up.  Did make for a nice faux meteor shower though.

Straight from the NYT...📰

"The powerful storm added kinetic energy to particles in Earth’s atmosphere."

Now ask yourself, why NASA can't seem to comprehend ?

...and refuse to factor the actual SUN 🌞 in their climate models ???

😵

PS: "we’re going to see an extreme event in the next cycle, because that typically is what happens during a solar maximum

....yet STILL.... no impact on climate? 🥸

BTW: We are just off solar MINIMUM...(another 5 yrs till (short) cycle max).  But from what I know of waves and cycles from surfing, the largest ones aren't simply tied to "high tide"....and you always seem to get a good set or two off that little  bump just coming off low....

🤷‍♂️

Coral reef experts have grown wary of summer months because if temperatures get too hot in July or August, whole reefs can get wiped out.

Since 2000, global temperatures have been breaking records almost annually and reefs have been dying en masse, undergoing a process known as “coral bleaching,” when the organisms that live on coral, providing nutrients and vibrant color, get cooked alive, turning coral a bone-white.

Bleaching events have accelerated in recent years and scientists predict that nearly all coral reefs could be destroyed by this phenomenon by 2050.

Coral reefs are also threatened by industrial pollution, invasive species, overfishing, plastic pollution, and ocean acidification, which is when the oceans absorb too much carbon dioxide from fossil fuel emissions and acidify.

Losing coral reefs would have a profound impact on the global environment and human society, according to UNESCO.

Where's the rabbit 🐰 hole HEaDLiNE ?!?

and you must be so proud of yer source too...

🤡

PS:The more than 4,000 dives the team will make over five years are the data-collection component of an unprecedented attempt to characterize five examples of every type of reef on the planet—twice—to see how each is responding to climate change, ocean acidification, pollution, overfishing, and the other insults humans have been throwing at many of them with increasing frequency and intensity over the last few decades.

Over a dinner of wahoo fillets and Cooks Lager, the local brew, following the first day of diving in Rarotonga, the scientists say they could already see that the island’s reefs, alive with new growth of diverse coral species and crowded with fish scraping away excess algae, are not like those that have dominated the news lately. “Coral reefs are bleaching four times as frequently as they did in the 1980s, scientists say,” read a Washington Postheadline in January. “Coral Reefs at ‘Make or Break Point’, UN Environment Head Says,” blared another January story in The Guardian. “Coral reefs at risk of dissolving as oceans get more acidic,” announced Reuters in February.

Nevertheless, reefs can recover when they are free from other stressors, such as pollution and overfishing, she says, so “simply to have a ‘coral reefs are doomed’ attitude is not particularly helpful, and not particularly accurate.”

My point is the vanity of humanity.  It’s not the earth that’s at stake due to our bad behaviors, it’s us.   Ever wonder about people that live in sprawling concrete jungles (ie cities) that consider themselves environmentalists?  How about people that don’t use the plastic grocery sacks, but fill up their reusable fabric backs with goods packaged in plastic?  Or, the green folks that go on cruise ships?  LMAO.  There’s a lot more than just improving our carbon footprint that we should be doing, if we are truly concerned about the earth.

The funny thing about climate change is how folks like to speak about the fragility of the earth, it’s ecosystems…

The earth will survive everything we can throw at it.

Never heard of anybody speak about the fragility of the earth.  No one serious anyway.  But I hear Troll has surfed before so I guess he is the expert on this subject.

I have met

a few coral reefs

in my time...🤣

and you ?

PS: Pollution is a huge problem, and CO2 is plant food...

...and there are far more toxic substances on the "priority" list.

BTW: The earth is not fragile....

...but "we" are.

(and screwing up yer priorities, can harm more than help)

Then in that case, you agree that global warming is an existential threat to humanity, not necessarily a concern for the earth.  After all, time alone will heal all the scars we’ve inflicted on the planet after we’re gone and unable to muse about such things.

Restoration of the earth is beyond our capability……
