This has '76 Moeller at #4 all-time, their '80 team at #6 and their '82 team at #17.

St. Ignatius landed teams at #15 ('93), #43 (1995) and #46 (1989).

Thanks, Concha.  Really like this.  Perhaps incredibly I believe I saw, in person, 6, 9, 19, 35, 39 and 43.  Serious.  I knew I travelled too much.

Back when Evangel Christian was stacking their roster like teams do today they had a great run:  (1997, #12), 1998, #3) and 1999, #2)-at USA Today...The 1999 Evangel team won a share of the MNC winning several polls including FOX Sports who was doing polls back then. Evangel probably averaged 15-20 D1s per year during that stretch. I think the 1999 team had over 20. ...West Monroe was pretty stout also back then.

EVANGEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY

Evangel Christian Academy named FOX Sports 1999 National Football Champions

By Bigger Faster Stronger
Published: Spring 2000
Evangel Christian Academy was crowned 1999 National High School Football Champions by Fox Sports after a hard fought victory over West Monroe. The game was billed as the biggest in Louisiana history. West Monroe was also undefeated in the 5-A ranks and coached by Don Shows. It was amazing as 42,000 attended the game.
Immediately after the game, Fox Sports wanted to have Midland Lee from Texas, the USA Today National Champions, play Evangel on national television to crown a true national champion. Now that would have been something but for a variety of reasons the game did not materialize.
Brock Berlin, Evangel’s QB, was selected as the game’s MVP in their 20-14 victory. Brock also has been selected as the Gatorade Player of the Year. Brock has already finished his graduation requirements and so he enrolled at the University of Florida in January in order to take full advantage of spring football for the Gators. Brock earned great grades and has demonstrated remarkable leadership by example. Brock’s work ethic and vision are without question an eleven. He is just outstanding in every area. Brock Berlin is our choice for this year’s BFS Athlete of the Year award. His complete story will appear in a future journal. Our congratulations to Evangel and Brock Berlin.

I saw more than a half dozen of those teams in person-maybe 9 or 10.

1.  ‘98 DeMatha is the best hs team ever in the DC area.  They should have been at least top five.

2.  ‘98 Central Bucks West was their best ever and could have beaten any other team. I saw a half dozen PA state championship in the ‘80’s through 2000’s (including Berwick one year they were #1) and I thought ‘98 CB West may have been the best.

3. ‘97 St. Ignatius crushed Berwick while losing to #1 Canton McKinley.  ‘96 Hampton would have beaten all of them.  I saw a lot of significant games in ‘96-‘98.

4.  I saw ECA play in Shreveport one of those years and would have loved to match them up with Ronald Curry’s Hampton.

I was fortunate enough to watch several of these teams in person as well. The 2001 Spartans crushing MD 42-0. All of the 2016 Gorman games. And the Gorman at MD game in 2017. According to their list

#1 2001 Dls

#5 2016 Gorman

#7 2017 MD

I saw DLS play at home in Concord once in the late ‘90’s snd saw them on the road once.  Both in person.

I must add this:  for all of my travel (100+ trips to Europe over 30 years, too-on business ((I sold to amusement parks over there also-Dortmund is the best “soccer” experience in my opinion)) ) over the last year+ my wife and I haven’t been to the other side of D. C. because of the pandemic.

We are now a month out from our second shots and look forward to returning to life!

And seeing any game in person again!!!!

For anyone reading this please get your vaccinations.  Please!  Your families, too.

Going through this exercise was very educational.   Very impressed with the South Lake Carroll teams during their run.

QB Riley Dodge was a trooper.
Watch at :50 into this clip.

Of all the old-timer teams that you overrate this is probably the most egregious.

They played nobody and had a basketball player at QB.

Would've been exposed against better competition.

First team All American as a basketball player.  First team USA Today QB in football. And the best high school football player I ever saw.  I stood on the sidelines for two+ hours with amazement at what he could do.

Note: he was a jr. when USA Today named him the best hs QB in America.

I must also mention that USA Today ALSO ranked him as the best high school QB in 1997!

West Monroe (during their run mentioned here) beat Travis Minor/Catholic-BR in 1996 in the 5A Semi's at Rebel Stadium. Catholic was #10 at USA Today at the time and stacked with college players.  That was some BIG BOY football.  I don't care what anyone says.

Travis Minor would go on to Florida St and become a star and he still ranks #4 in career rushing yardage at Florida St.....Warrick Dunn (also from Catholic-BR) ranks #2 in career rushing yardage at Florida St. That's crazy.

Catholic was good to Florida St back in the day.

Florida St Career Rushing

1 Dalvin Cook 4,464 2014 2015 2016
2 Warrick Dunn 3,959 1993 1994 1995 1996
3 Greg Allen 3,769 1981 1982 1983 1984
4 Travis Minor 3,218 1997 1998 1999 2000
5 Larry Key 2,953 1974 1975 1976 1977

Of course West Monroe gets zero credit for beating an undefeated #10 nationally ranked Catholic-BR squad, but DLS gets mad props for beating 2-loss St  Louis, HI, 4-loss Evangel, 3 and 5-loss Mater Dei....welcome to the internet!

It's all bullshit....

Not sure what you are referring to.  DLS and West Monroe most likely both end up in Tier 2 for their runs.  We do things properly on the National boards.  Hope you aren't just whining for the sake of whining.

You are the one that brought these teams into the mix and you even posted the DLS/Evangel video yet again (yawn).....NOT me.

That said. Sooner or later you are going to have to turn your paper in to the professor. You get NO grade for changing the equation every 3 days. It's NOT that hard of a task.

The product evolved in a positive direction thanks to crowd sourced points made by knowledgeble members, and that includes you.  It's not my paper.  This work belongs to all of us.  I am merly the humble facilitator.

He went to college and absolutely sucked at both sports.

Not just failed.

But legitimately sucked.

The fact that you watched that guy play football and thought he as the best you ever saw is your problem. And is proof that you're clueless.
