I have always said... the kids pay for the stupidity of the adults.
Never have I’ve seen the actions of an educator blinded by revenge and self interest go down this road. I’ve seen ego and pride play out in players getting physically hurt by a driven coach but this is something else altogether.

Seeing him get involved with that USAA debacle really opened my eyes to where he was headed. Disconnected from reality might be one way to view it all at this point.

I mean, I've heard some doozies of some stories about some of the ideas coming from that think tank over there with his close confidants and all. Like unrealistic plans on how to end up right back coaching at Colquitt and stuff after a couple of years.

All kind of sad really. He had it all here at Colquitt and couldn't exactly stay out of his own way. Ends up losing it all and then what looks like a death spiral ever since.

I hate it most for his kids. Love those kids. This has to all be very hard on them.

I was hoping that USAA venture would lift off... damn if that didn’t turn the wrong way quick.

Hawg...for those of us who have been close to the "happenings"...it's just gut wrenching to have watched the turn of events.  In the early years...I thought Rush could actually do it.  I thought he had a chance of restoring his reputation (from the Hoover debacle) and make Colquitt County his final and long-lived stand.  I believed that path to be a realistic one.

For those who do not know...Rush has a lot of very good qualities.  Unfortunately, his bad qualities seem to get the limelight.  I reckon there are plenty who would say...rightfully so.  When he landed the Valdosta job...a DREAM of his for a long, long time...I thought...well...third time is the charm.  But honestly, I had this seed of doubt.  I didn't come close to thinking that seed would turn into a tree within a year's time.

You made the point about his family.  It breaks my heart that they hafta go thru this.  If all the critics want to feel bad for the "kids" as they post...start with the Propst kids first.

As an aside...I might see ya in May...cause I never liked them Cairo Syrupmakers.

NEVER !!!!

He is who he always has been and who most thought he was.

Zero doubt he has many redeemable qualities. Zero doubt he has many demons. Most of us do. The thing is, when those demons cause you to lose jobs, family, friends, reputations, et cetera they will and should always outweigh the good. Hell Escobar, Chapo and many a Mafia Don have donated probably in the hundreds of millions if not billions to worthwhile causes. Nobody (outside of those who benefited from them) is putting them up their with the good people in the world.

Now y’all don’t go crazy with the comparison. I’m not comparing rush to people responsible for thousands of murders and deaths. It’s the good/bad point I’m trying to convey. Sadly I have to explain, but I digress.

I blame the everybody for this mess. I blame the valdosta board for biting the apple. I blame rush for shitslicking the families of the kids who got suspended and screwing the valdosta players who will now watch the playoffs because of his jackassery along with many in the valdosta communities ignorance.

He admittedly cheated everywhere he’s been.

You are right John Gotti in his home area of Howard Beach was viewed as a hero and loved by everyone in that area because he took care of that area.

Escobar spent tens of millions building housing in the barrios and slums of a few cities in Columbia. Chapo did the same in Mexico.

I dont know to much about the Mexican drug Lords. I have read every book nearly printed on the Vegas and Mob from the 1960s to early 80's. If you have ever watched casino that era mainly.

The locals and most police loved the Vegas mob. They took care of the police.

Little know fact in the movie casino when it showed the mob guys robbing jewelry stores and hotel guest of their personal jewelry 95% the guest and the jewelry store owners were involved on insurance claims. In one case the same jewelry was used in 15 hotel robberies. The hotel guest were sent the jewelry by the mob guys the guest got the jewelry got insurance on them fly to Vegas claim they were stolen giving them back to the mob guys file insurance claim for say $50,000 get the money split with the mob guys who had the jewelry back then start the process over again with somebody else using the same jewelry.  This went on for probably 20 years.   So the guest got a 20% or so cut and a free vegas trip out of the deal.  So a lot of how dangerous the movies made these guys life out to be tons of their money did not involve killing or violence it was scams.

I've thought of this often.  What do you say to your kids when they find out you have another family?  What do you say to your kids when you aren't there for some of their life events or even regular holidays?  What do you say to your wife and kids when you are dismissed in the job and community you love and were respected in?  What do you say to your family when yet again, you have messed up to the point you are probably going to lose your job and your ability to provide for them?

While I still wonder about this some, I will admit that Rush's actions for the past several years appear to those of a drowning man for the second or maybe even the third time.  I've seen panic in people and their actions begin to no longer make much sense.  I'm sure you've heard the old saw about telling the truth because it is so much easier than telling lies and having to keep up with what you've said and who you've said it to.  Imagine *living* the lie and seeing everything you do drag you further down and you scramble hard to pull yourself back up.  The pressure he must feel must be close to unbearable.  Shoot, if I was friends with him I'd start to be concerned about him harming himself at this point.  Can't really put words to how I used to think about him but now I am just sad and pity the man.

I don’t think rush is type to harm himself and I wouldn’t wish that upon anybody.

Yeah, it's all just really difficult to wrap your head around. I can't imagine actually living it as he is. I'll admit that I have found myself wondering what type of conversations they've had to have as a family over the past couple of years. Definitely couldn't have been easy stuff going on there.

Nah, he isn't. He's a pretty strong willed guy. I couldn't imagine him doing any self harm, but, stuff like is going on does take a toll on you emotionally and eventually physically I think.

Most certainly and if he is going through more cancer treatments (some say he is, some say he isn’t?) that isn’t a path to clear thinking and sound mind.

As far as family conversation goes, I can only imagine. Kids think what we instill in them. I would hope that his kids are able to realize that none of this is their fault. Many times kids blame themselves for bad things in their parents lives. Crazy as that sounds. Can’t be easy having a Dad whose history of decisions is out there for the world to see, especially when many are not thought of as good.

I’ve only heard good things about his kids though. I’m happy for that.

I hear way too often from friends of people that have harmed themselves "We had no idea. S/he was so strong and seemed so in control."  Sometimes the ones that seem to have it together the most are the ones hanging by an unraveling thread.

I agree 100% with this post. The “seemed to have it together” part, in this instance, doesn’t necessarily apply. 😂

Jokes aside, mental illness is serious and if you’re a friend to somebody who is been taking a beating in life it’s better to reach out and offend them than talk about how you should have at their funeral.

I’ve had three guys that were with me in Somalia and SW Asia commit suicide and it’s a terrible thing to be associated with somebody who makes that choice.

The guilt I feel is my own burden. I can only imagine what theirs was.
