I have to take Clarke Central. They had a great program under Billy Henderson. The Championship game was a matchup of 2 undefeated nationally ranked teams, Clarke Central vs. Robert Davis led Warner Robins.

While West Rome was good... Clarke Central actually beat some really good teams along the way. Ill take them.

I technically wasnt alive when this went down... But I was alive to see some of the very early 1990s Billy Henderson Clarke Central teams and they were good. Clarke Central, Warner Robins, and Valdosta all took turns dominating back then.

In the 2nd rd West Rome beat Central (Carroll.) 24-19. Central was ranked as high as #2 in their class... And they themselves had 7 shutouts in 12 games, not as many as West Rome but still pretty impressive... Central had only given up 39 points in their 1st 11 games before facing West Rome.

West Rome had 2 1st team All-State RBs... And a 3rd HM.

How close you all think this game would be

Also what some you other GA guys take on this matchup

1985 Clarke Central. I feel that they played more quality teams during their span of dominance. They were one of the more notable programs alongside Valdosta back in the glory days.

Both were before my time, but some of the old timers still talk about them till this day.

Interested to see who you have 1991 National Champion LaGrange up against. That was a nasty team.

As was 1992 Valdosta.

For that matter, so was 1986 Valdosta who also won a MNC.

The real powerhouse is 2002 Parkview. Finished #2 and was absolutely robbed of a MNC by De La Salle simply bc they had "The Streak". Parkview finished with a 45 game winning streak themselves.

92 valdosta will be tested big time if they win their first game over a very solid team

Lagrange matchup will be interesting if this team they playing is as good as their 2017 version

I wish we could tell you what happened to Clarke Central...

They dropped off big...

After Henderson left they just never where the same.

In addition to their coach leaving, it could’ve been any number of things from finances to other schools opening up in the area.

Schools opening up around one of the high schools I played for affected them dramatically. Oak Ridge,TN used to be a big school powerhouse (even nationally ranked some years), now they are just another average team in the 2nd biggest class.
