Some need it, but we are well beyond that point. Second of all, force feeding “healthy” food to kids is an awful idea - most would not eat it if their mother was sitting there, so I suspect they won’t in school either. The most important thing for kids to do is eat - their bodies are growing. They are not obese because of what they eat. They are obese because they sit on their asses all day long and get little physical activity. I had a lot of lunches consisting of a sandwich, a bag of Fritos, a piece of fruit or carrot sticks and a cookie or 2 and I was thin as could be in high school. Well now fast food chains sell hamburgers made of plants and bread is considered as bad for you as donuts - so Stockman was a visionary.

Well social body shaming from a society that pays the price is out...🙄 But somewhere I got the impression that if you were going to go the government intervention route, that it might just be better to limit substitutions, additives, and the corruption of the actual food supply....than it would be to say... $ tax that soda...🤔 silly, I know....

Bring back shame. It's cheap and effective. I like the idea of limiting the corruption of the food supply. But I thought @Bormio's point was that kids won't eat "healthy" food. So if we rid schools of soda, the kids would likely die of thirst. That wouldn't be good. Maybe we should turn school into fat camp. Get them off their asses.
