Texas Friday Night Lights: The Real Champion, Monroe Neville, La

Everyone remembers "Friday Night Lights", but there was much stuff left out of that overly-hyped movie/show.

Ok, "Friday Nigh Lights" really lasted 3 years...1988,1989 and 1990 and while it focused on Odessa Permian there were 4 schools involved in that madness at the time. Judson to a lesser degree for 5 teams maybe.

They were:

 Odessa Permian

Dallas Carter

Marshall Mavericks

Monroe Neville, La (one of Louisiana's best)

As you glance at the 3 years of the madness below only ONE team went undefeated of the 4 teams mentioned in that circle of games..

Monroe  Neville, La defeated Marshall in 1989 and 1990. These were two of the best teams in Marshall history as was 1988...

1988 Marshall lost to Dallas Carter in the playoffs 22-18 in the last minutes. Remember how big those Dallas Carter cats looked in the movie (lol----anyways, Dallas Carter would go on to beat Odessa Permian 14-9 later in the playoffs and beat Judson in the 5A Title game (31-14). Dallas Carter was then stripped of the state title for being the most corrupt program in high school football history.

Anyways, in that 3 year stretch Marshall was 38-5-1........two pf those losses were to the 4A Monroe Neville Fighting Tigers of Louisiana. Even little Monroe Wossman got them some Friday Night Lights, but they fell twice in scarppy games.

All that stuff wasn't in the movie !😀

..4A was our highest class in those days.

Ruston would go on to CRUSH  everyone in the playoffs and win a part of the MNC that year.

The movie and show were supposed to be about the Valdosta Wildcats but the coach at the time declined the offer so they went to Texas. I wouldn't call Carter the most corrupt program of all time. The most egotistical during the time maybe.
