Former NFL linebacker Pepper Johnson, who won two Super Bowl rings during his 13-year NFL career, is the new head football coach at IMG Academy (Bradenton, Florida), which won the 2020-21 High School Football America national championship. Johnson, who won the rings with the New York Giants, also played with the Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions and New York Jets.”

This is a downgrade.   NFL guys rarely if ever work out as HS coaches.  He will get out coached in every game, and will rely on out athlete-ing to win games.

The Stache beat IMG with a clearly inferior team, due to coaching.

DLS won big games with inferior teams due to coaching.

At the High school level Coaching is King.

This change puts IMG on the bubble for Tier 1.

I agree that coaching is the number one element that will determine wether a program is successful or not. Especially at the HS and at the NCAA levels.

I don’t know much about Peppers’ head coaching experience. Who knows he might fit right in with that IMG environment?

Columbia beat IMG the same year with a former NFL player as the head coach and Columbia has been in playoffs every year he's been head coach

And since when was a mater Dei team coming off a national championship and still loaded in D1 players an inferior team? The only reason people thought IMG was better was because you clowns wouldn't listen to me when I tried to warn you that IMG team wasn't all that good

I told anyone who would listen for months that mater dei would beat IMG but nobody wanted to listen because it wasn't convenient for your all's argument

Also as Los said, pepper Johnson has NFL coaching experience and is probably already a more qualified coach than the last two ones they had

And since when was IMG winning games because of coaching? They were winning in spite of it because of how many fucking blue chippers they had and it would be obvious if people on this board would ever get their head out of their ass and watch IMG for what they are

A half-ass JUCO team with half-ass effort that somehow loses when they face a team of similar talent and better coaching

This may actually make them better because maybe for once they will actually have competent coaching

Last year they went 8-0, won every national championship and out-scored their opponents, 381-82, while playing a national schedule.

The concept of coaching on this forum is so warped from reality that it's incredible.

If they are so great then why did it take CA and MD not having a fall season for IMG to finally win a national title?

Apparently You think great coaching is taking a team that on paper would be a top 10 recruiting class in FBS football to an undefeated season, if a team that loaded lost more than a single game I would think he was high as a fucking kite on gameday

96 is the greatest 7 on 7 coach in the history of the world. He knows what he’s talking about. His expertise is exactly why lowends has won so many state titles lately.

96 is a moron but even a blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then

Los should stick to stuff he knows and considering Los hasn't even coached a single pop Warner game, much less a high school game he has no qualifications to talk about coaching and who is good coaches and who isn't
