There's not one single objective mathematical formula that could ever have santa margarita #22 out of 15,000 high schools in the preseason.

Ok, let’s assume they go 8-2, losing games only to MD/SJB and keep it to within 3 scores in each loss, they beat either MV or Cen10 in playoff round 1, then lose a close game to either MD/SJB again.  Where would you rank them?

If any Louisiana team had that resume he’d have them in the top 5 and we’d never hear the end of it. Since SM is from the state and league that lives rent free in his head, it’s probably safe to say he’d have them well north of 100.

It would be nice to see Lutheran or Margarita play Zachary,  Catholic or Destrehan

santa margarita hasn't won 8 or more games since 2012......a decade.

Let's assume they go 6-5 again. 😃

All trinity league, ca teams are in the californiapreps Preseason Top 100!!

Every team mater haze plays this year is a Top 100 team basically. lmao

People say RedZone, RedZone......the preseason numbers and ratings don't matter.

Start all those ca teams in Top 300-400 range and watch mater haze's SOS take a huge hit! 😂

jserra catholic coming in at #85 in the californiapreps preseason poll......those jokers were 3-8 last year.

If Woodlawn (Baton Rouge) played santa margarita and lost by 2 TDs could they be Top 100? That's how that works, right?

Woodlawn has four commits so far. LSU, Tennessee, La Tech and Louisiana Lafayette.

How many does santa margarita have so far, 2?

Woodlawns QB is going to LSU..... the santa margarita QB is going to UAB..... that's Alabama at Birmingham.

Woodlawn would get smoked by 20 and we'd hear they had the balls to play them from you

The rest of their team sucks

Woodlawn would get wrecked like Los Al did last year.  Not enough trench play

Whatever....Woodlawn had enough trench play to beat a good Catholic-BR team last year. Oh, yeah.....Catholic won the D1 state championship too.

Woodlawn QB Rickie Collins (LSU commit) had a good game vs Catholic.

Collins completed 14 of 20 passes for 198 yards and one TD for Woodlawn (4-4, 3-1). Running back Amani Givens ran for 161 yards and three TDs on 22 carries.

Again, this proves that Baton Rouge Catholic sucked, not that Woodlawn was good.

Summary:

SJH lowered from 32.2 to current 28.6

SM lowered from 64.5 to current 57.9

And they are at 57.9 because they started at 64.5. Had they started at 34.5 they would certainly not have risen to 57.9. So, teams rise and fall, sure. But, they rise and fall relative to where they, and their opponents, were coming into the game.

Give Freeman credit for attempting the impossible by having criteria to try and out out a better product initially.

Massey for example had Mililani defeating Mission Viejo by double digits last week.  Hawaii scale was too jacked up.

The game scoring went 2-0, 5-0 at the half, 11-0 (2 pt failed), 11-8 midway 4th qtr approx and 18-8 final.
SJH has a ‘25 slinger with P5 offers, but clearly SM struggled more than they should have per any algorithm or human opinion.   They’ve got Norco next week, who defeated them last season.

FYI, Cocoa dominated last night vs a team rated well below them on CP… so not sure what to take from it.  KOC

The biggest issue, which is likely unavoidable, is the lack of meaningful "connectivity" between teams from different regions of the country. So, teams that end up "connected" (through playing or common opponents) are prejudiced positively. It's just not possible to rate these teams effectively. Getting the order of teams from within the same state correct by season's end may be doable. But comparisons of teams from different states (certainly different regions) are not reliable.

I would say the teams that are more connected nationally have a better guesstimate in a national rating. I’ve called it breaking the chains, a song by Dokken.  The state scale chain is broken when schools play OOS.   The better tilts with OOS, the better Freeman’s algorithm will be.
