CIF State (note: not the CIF Southern Section or any other section) is moving up their state championship games by one week next year (Dec 7-8 as opposed to Dec 15-16 this year). This will effectively force all of the CIF Sections to move up the entire season by one week (or drop a game or a bye week). One can't help but wonder if this has anything to do with better aligning the CA state champs to play in the GEICO State Champions Bowl Series...

The way it works now is for some divisions there is a bye week before sectional championship and state game. E.g. the winner of MD/SJB would have a week off before the state game. DLS has basically an entire month off but let’s not digress!

I would still be surprised if teams were allowed to play in the Geico game because it would mean potentially 16 total games.

That's only true for the open division. Everyone else plays in a regional bowl game.

Guessing they will just make Week 0 week 1 and teams won’t have the week 4/5 bye week anymore

It will definitely be up to the teams. Some teams will eliminate the bye weeks, some will continue to play Week 0 games (Week 0 will just a week earlier than this year). Week 0 next year would be August 17:

Week 0 - August 17
Week 1- August 24
Week 2 - August 31
Week 3 - September 7
Week 4 - September 14
Week 5 - September 21
Week 6 - September 28
Week 7 - October 5
Week 8 - October 12
Week  9 - October 19
Week 10 - October 26
Playoff R1 - November 2
Playoff QF - November 9
Playoff SF - November 16
Playoff Finals - November 23
Regional Bowls - November 30/December 1
State Bowls - December 7/8

It’s up to 16 total games today for everyone except the Open and smallest division

Looks like DLS or M.D. in the Geico next year. Y'all wanted it and now you'll get it. Careful what u wish for cuz after cali puts the smack down in the Geico y'all will get a whole year of mass cali gloating. Lol

If the other Division winners can play 16 games and the open winner only gets 15.....then that leaves an extra game for the GEiCO.

The Stache or SJB vs. Ga #1

#GAjustSh*tBricks

Hope not...Cali should play Florida, Georgia should be another tier 2 state like  Arkansas or something

if that’s true Hell Week (at MD it’s 3 week long) would start in July 😱

No love for the 2018 Braves as two-time defending State champs? :D

My bad.  I honestly meant to include them especially with DJ coming back. Oh lawd its not looking good for the rest of the tiny little undersized inexperienced nation.

Next year and the year after Bosco is going to be almost unstoppable...this Saturday night is a different story 🙂

Off topic, but here is quick summary of who Bosco is losing next year and the key returners. In short, the biggest loss will be the OL and Secondary. However, they are essentially returning the entire starting offense + 2 key OLineman (Talavaou and Reyes). The front 7 should be the strength of the defense next year and they will need to find some guys to step up and replace Woodbey, Blaylock and Price. I wouldn't be surprised to see Bailey move back to DB since they have so many other weapons on offense.

Key departures:

It Says Mitchell is ‘out for 2017’. Is he not even going to suit up for the final game? God forbid that DJ gets injured then what? Is Mitchell still taking any reps in practice?

As far as I know, he won't play. Thankfully DJ seems fairly... stout.
