This year advantage thing is starting to be common place in Florida it seems.

It's going on almost everywhere in the country with sports.  I graduated from High School as a 17 year old back in 2000.  Most of the class was 18 and we had a few that were 19.

I didn't turn 18 until a few months after HS graduation.

Cooper likely won't be competing in HS events his senior year and will turn pro right out of HS.  Lets see what his pb's are after the summer national events are completed.

That's the same as my son...He turned 18 in July after graduation.  I turned 18 in Sept of my Sr year.

My wife turned 18 in april of her sr.  and Copper is going to turn 19 in march of his sr year.  He would have been 1 year and 1 month older than her.

Big HS meet here at the Jesuit Relays.  2nd only to the Texas relays.

Track and field preview: Powerhouse Desoto hasn’t lost a step on boys, girls teams ahead of 53rd Jesuit-Sheaner relays

http://sportsday.dallasnews.com/high-school/high-schools/2017/03/23/track-field-preview-powerhouse-desotohasnt-lost-step-boys-girls-teams-ahead-53rd-jesuit-sheaner-relays

Over 150 schools from Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas will be represented. That's just the way Sheaner, track coach at Jesuit for two decades, likes it.

Other intriguing confrontations:

The longest-standing record in the meet belongs to one of Jesuit's own. In 1964 Mike Madigan won the long jump with a mark of 24 feet, 5 inches. That record could be in jeopardy. DeSoto's Fredrick Williams has already gone 24-81/2 this season. Marquis Goodwin, who went on to set the national high school record in 2009 while competing for Rowlett, came up an inch and a quarter short in his try at Madigan's meet record.

Nicholas Alexander of Sachse heads a blistering group of 100-meter sprinters with a best time this spring of 10.39. Roman Turner, a senior at Wichita Falls Hirschi, ran a 10.43 last weekend. The meet record is 10.26 set by DaBryan Blanton of Forney in 2002.

Don't get me wrong...I am still very impressed with Cooper.

However, he is a 17 year old Soph - Cooper will turn 18 during his Jr. year.  Cooper will turn 19 during track season his sr year.  ---Personally I don't like this and believe it to be fairly big advantage for him.  look at like this he was old enough to start drivers ed in the 8th grade.

normal students would not turn 18 until after their Sr. year started and they wouldn't turn 19 until at least the fall semester of their freshman year in college.

Still he is extremely fast regardless.

How is this a advantage?? Doesn't change so he's racing against

BCAA Champ. (Broward) track event prelims are later today and finals in the evening... link below  (gusty winds today)

GMAC Champ.  (Tyrese Cooper 100 and 400) Saturday...  link below.

http://fl.milesplit.com/meets/258345/results#.WNVbDW8rLIU

The GMAC results are now listed from yesterday's event.

Highlights: New #1's    Thomas Burns - MNW lowered his #1 300H to a PB 35.81 ,  Symone Mason  400 52.42!  (Southridge HS),  #1 easily in nation,   300H 41.24 #1  De'Andreah Young  MNW

Cooper ran a 10.54 wind legal and a 46.01 400  (400 GMAC record).  10.54 is still tied for 4th wind legal, his 10.50 is still #2.   46.01 a bit disappointing with a meet record though lol.  That's the reality as with him opting to just run the 100 and 400 I think most were expecting a 45 and frankly a lower 45...   I was.

Columbus ran a 40.96   4x100  and won the boys overall title.   MNW 2nd.   Girls MNW lapped the field as expected

--------------------------------------------

STA girls took the BCAA, while the boys took 4th  (Hallandale edged Miramar for the title, Ely 3rd).   No #1's

Not a fast race...

Texas has produced 52 of the top 100 4 x100 times nationally at this point

You see Desoto ran 4 Soph's on their 4x400 and kids ran a 3:17.  Desoto have a nation leading 3:12    That school could run 4 4x400 teams and all would be top 20 in the nation.  Sick talent at that school.
