Servite travelled to and lost to Moeller of Cincinnati in 1982. Moeller was #1 then. That was a very good Servite team with Steve Beuerlein at QB. Back in the early 80s Servite and Edison were the equivalent of today’s Bosco and MD.

And now edison getting blown out by teams in the pacific coast league like Corona Del Mar lol. Irvine, Woodbridge, Uni, those schools in the league with CDM. Oh have times changed.

2012 LOSS Bishop Gorman Las Vegas 42-0

2011 LOSS Bishop Gorman Las Vegas 31-28

Not sure where you are getting your info, but you not only left out the Moeller game (which they STILL haven't come to Anaheim for our turn as the home team), but you also left out the following games:

1969  Servite 13  Las Vegas Clark 7

1970  Servite 28  Las Vegas Clark 6

1995  Servite 51  De La Salle 6

Yes, that last game actually, truly happened.

I’m sure it did, but the Meteors are not exactly a football juggernaut? Mount Carmel or JC would have been a better match-up.

The only time in Servite history they will ever be able to beat a team named De La Salle

I wouldn't be so sure of that. 2016 DLS had to come from behind with a TD and 2-pt. conversion, just to nip Trinity League's 5th place team Servite 28-27. That with Servite's weakest coaching staff ever.

Remember...Every dog has his day.

OOS teams Folsom dodged while running up misleading w/L records, cream puff enabled scoring records, and over inflated state rankings.

Wow lol

The Moeller game was the year after Faust left for Notre Dame where he took over as head coach after his incredible success at Moeller.  Something like four national championships in six years and the ‘82 game was USA Today’s first year ranking teams.  Moeller finished #1 and Servite #4.

The game was played next to Kings Island at the adjacent 10,000 seat stadium.  Servite with Beuerlein was one of California’s best teams in years.  In this game they actually led through part or all of the third quarter.

But Moeller pulled it out by two td’s or so.

That was 39 years ago.  Most people on this board have no idea how good Moeller was under Faust.  At one stretch they won something like 106 out of 107 games losing only to Massillon in a state championship game.  Along the way they beat DeMatha, Hampton Bethel, Dallas Jesuit, Miami Christopher Columbus, Michigan’s Brither Rice and others all while Ohio football was among America’s best.  And these teams were on top in their home states at the time.

Still, Servite believed they could beat them.  The game had to be played in Ohio-the state assn. didn’t allow travel beyond 300 or so miles from the state line.  Faust would have played anywhere.

I am fortunate to have seen Moeller play under Faust-they almost filled the University of Cincinnati stadium where they  played their home games.

Respectfully to IMG but Moeller under Faust and DLS under coach Lad were the national standards.

Valdosta and Massillon would have opinions on my statement above, too.

Once in a great while a special program comes along.  Faust’s Moeller was legendary.

The year Columbus played them, they went 7-3 and missed the playoffs. They weren’t very good at all that year. Are you sure you know that all those teams you mentioned were “some of the best”? Because Columbus wasn’t

What was Columbus’ record the year before when they scheduled the game?  Hampton, VA Bethel andDeMatha’s only losses the year of their games (Servite, too) was to Moeller.

Regardless, Notre Dame thought he was so good that they hired him to be their head coach.

Good memory. Moeller's 3rd game of the season...Servite's first game. See-saw game, as the teams took turns scoring.

3-0 Servite

7-3 Moeller

9-7 Servite

14-9 Moeller

15-14 Servite

22-15 Moeller

But then Servite failed to score, and Moeller scored again on a long run by Francisco Hiawatha (or was it Hiawatha Francisco?), for a 29-15 final score.

Servite finished 11-1, Angelus League Champions, CIF Champions, State Champions (based on being the highest rated California team) and, as you mentioned, #4 in the USA.

But, in the spirit of Servite Mater Dei week...the best thing was destroying the Mater Dei Monarchs 42-7. 😜

I will check but they missed the playoffs in 1983 as well so it can’t be that good

@BigDrop Just because Moeller played an inferior Columbus team, didn’t mean they were seeking out some gimme garbage. The game came about when Gerry Faust was recruiting some Columbus kids to Notre Dame. The Columbus coach asked to link him up with Moeller and the game was created. They got special permission from the state association and county conference to travel out of state. It was the first time since 1954 that a Miami-Dade team had traveled out of state.
