The state is looking to dismantle the Ghsa

Im all for it but their other bill is BS. They are trying to push an open market for players to transfer whenever and wherever. Take a wild guess who's representatives are pushing this bill and what schools would benefit from it.

This is the 2nd time law makers have tried to abolish the GHSA. Everyone outside of Gwinnett County sees how bad of an organization it is. I have preached about this for years, most see this. But you still have guys like Fred who defend them like it is a close family member.

A group that does not even know where basketball goals go for state title games should be shut down. 

Shutting down state title games with teams at the field over light snow when Alabama played in the same snow fall the day before without incident. Plus you were playing indoors. Then having no back plan to have the games. They need shutting down. 

Allow the Garcia kid to be legal at Grayson should have put the GHSA board members in prison.

Not being able to secure the Benz for state title games.

Etc.

One day they might realize that state associations are just groups of schools and if the schools continue to exist then so will state associations.

If you "dismantle" the GHSA then something else (GHSA 2!) will replace it.

The only problem is they are trying to replace them with an even worse deal. They are trying to push a bill to allow players to transfer and play at will. A player could play for collins hill all year and see the team is going to miss the playoffs and transfer to a private for one week and then transfer somewhere like grayson to play in the playoffs.

It will make it worse because Lowndes will be able to poach all the South Georgia talent as well as North Florida

They look at Robin Hines and think he is the GHSA. 

The GHSA is the member schools. The board and director are put into place by the member schools, which include Lowndes and Colquitt and Tift. 

The rules seem to tilt a little against the deep south schools, but, it's basically because of democracy and majority rule. The population centers are where the majority of the votes are and their best interests arent necessarily the best interests of the southern schools. They do bend somewhat to help the southern schools have competitive equity, but, at the end of the day, people from south Georgia will feel somewhat shafted and people from the population centers will be pretty satisfied. 

The honor system for investigating transfers is the main issue in today's environment. Since the member schools are the GHSA and they must be the watchdog over each other, and then report suspicious activity to the director, there will always be pockets where the schools allow questionable transfers with what appears to be little repercussion, because there isn't a will to turn them in by other member schools in the know. 

This open the transfer rule in the senate is basically the privates clapping back for getting the 3 times multiplier placed on them. 

Won't happen.

BUT...

When they refused to make me despot...I didn't have any other good alternative.

Sigh.  You still don't get it ... and probably won't.  The GHSA *is* the member schools.  It isn't a state organization.  The schools have the opportunity to set up the rules they want to be governed by.  Despite the perceived bias by some on here that the metro schools run everything, there are more non-metro member schools than there are metro schools.  If it were really biased to Gwinnett or the metro for that matter, the members have every opportunity to change that.  (By the way, there are 23 Gwinnett high schools as compared to the roughly 450 member schools.  That's about 5% or a touch over.  Clearly a controlling interest! 🤷‍♂️)  The key here is that they haven't.  It doesn't matter the size of the school, each school has *one* vote.  They elect their regional reps.  Nothing is imposed on them.  While some classifications have more member schools in the metro area than others (7A is a good example), that changes drastically as the classification goes down in member school size.  Let's not forget that school size in at least some counties is a function of what the local school boards want.  There are multiple counties in non-metro Georgia that could have 7A size schools if they want to.  However, the local communities have decided that they want more smaller school as opposed to fewer larger schools as is their right. The membership could change the rules if they want to.  They can set up enforcement if they want to.  So far, despite the whining by some (especially by those with no vested interest, go figure), the *members* have chosen to have things set up as they are.  The members weren't happy with the privates being able to bring students in from outside their serving area as defined by the members so the members set up the multiplier for out of district students.  Some of the member schools affected didn't like it, couldn't convince the other members to rethink it, so they left.  Lots of free will on display with all of these actions.  The members are ending up with what they want.

These two bills are a bunch of poop.  One of them abolishes the GHSA and then puts it almost exactly back in place with the exceptions of the transfer rules and the State being part of it.  How many think having the State involved is a good idea?  The other says any school receiving state or federal money can't belong to a governing organization that allows private schools to compete athletically against public schools.  Yea right.  Tell me how that is good for all of the kids playing.  These are flat out power grabs by the State.  Funny thing, the eight listed cosponsors of 328 aren't all from the metro area.  At least 5 are from rural north, west, or east Georgia.  A couple of others are from areas such as north Hall which technically is considered part of metro but if you know anything about the area it is a far cry from the metro area.

No I don't think the GHSA is perfect.  Yes I do think there are things that could be done to address some of the issues.  I just don't think it is corrupt or inept or inherently biased.
