State of American Politics: 2024

History is made this morning as the debt reaches $34 trillion for the first time.

image.thumb.png.a19731993f3c66a07a7f5f106db62d76.png

Andrew Jackson was President the last time we had no debt. Since then all Presidents, regardless of party have added more and more. They weren’t all irresponsible, but recent Presidents (regardless of party) have skyrocketed it.

But here is Biden claiming he cut the deficit in half! He has added $6 trillion alone since he took office, and his debt ceiling agreement is going add at least $4 billion.

Debt and deficit are two different things.  To lower the debt it seems we have three ways to address the problem.  Either cut funding for social programs or tax the rich...or a combination of the two.  Given the fact that the rich could be taxed without it hurting them in any way, that seems the only reasonable choice imo.

We know what Republicans have always done, trickle-down economics, and that has never worked and has only made things worse.

But, if not dealt with, the debt will bankrupt us.

The state of American politics....hummm....well we have one party going after a sitting Pres. and his family and is looking to impeach him with no proof just because Trump told them to....

we have the top Republican candidate quoting Hitler and promising retribution for a "stolen" election that wasn't stolen, yet 28% of Republicons believe his BIG lie with ZERO proof...

the leading candidate for the Republicans has 91 felony charges against him in 4 different states not to mention another defamation case against a women he just lost 5 million dollars to...

things aren't good in America...in fact things are really ugly...you have a deranged man in charge of a political party who has no morals and lies to his cronies more than tells the truth...America is in crisis...we need to get rid of Trump and his brainless clowns squad yesterday and let the REAL republicans in America (Liz Cheney-Mitt Romney) bring the Republican party back to life without Trump's cancer....

the world is watching America in disbelief...a guy who tried to overthrow our gov't 3 years ago and was called out by all leading Republicans at the time for his actions is now back in charge of the party?!?...saying he wants revenge???.....our country is broken....and we can blame the MAGA morons for it...😪

John Fetterman was easily the biggest surprise of 2023. A progressive who ended up being an 80’s Democrat.

He also takes border security much more seriously than most Republicans!

It’s been interesting to see the left turn on Fetterman over the past few minutes.

The irony of this whole thing, is that Fetterman is probably more to the right than Dr Oz would’ve been, on several issues!

Not possible.  He was MAGA and there is no irony.  Everything related to Trump or in his orbit is doomed.  He is poison and the ultimate failure.

And everybody knows the border laws need reform and there is a problem.  Always have.  Everybody wants the problem solved except Republican lawmakers.  Fact.

But just like when Obama was in office, those are the wrong kinds of jobs. And real unemployment is 7%. We need the kind of jobs that were only being created between 2017 and 2021 exclusively and no time ever before or since. Only if you create those jobs are you allowed to use the lower, more traditional number that’s always been used for everyone and everything else.

The unemployment rate held at 3.7 percent in December, and the number of unemployed persons was essentially unchanged at 6.3 million. These measures are higher than a year earlier, when the jobless rate was 3.5 percent and the number of unemployed persons was 5.7 million.

The labor force participation rate, at 62.5 percent, and the employment-population ratio, at 60.1 percent, both decreased by 0.3 percentage point in December.

The number of persons employed part time for economic reasons, at 4.2 million, changed little in December but was up by 333,000 over the year. These individuals, who would have preferred full-time employment, were working part time because their hours had been reduced or they were unable to find full-time jobs.

The number of persons not in the labor force who currently want a job edged up to 5.7 million in December and was up by 514,000 over the year. These individuals were not counted as unemployed because they were not actively looking for work during the 4 weeks preceding the survey or were unavailable to take a job.

Government employment increased by 52,000 in December. Employment continued to trend up in local government (+37,000) and federal government (+7,000). Government added an average of 56,000 jobs per month in 2023, more than double the average monthly gain of 23,000 in 2022.

The change in total nonfarm payroll employment for October was revised down by 45,000, from +150,000 to +105,000, and the change for November was revised down by 26,000, from +199,000 to +173,000. With these revisions, employment in October and November combined is 71,000 lower than previously reported.

<<Cheer for all this or certain people will get butthurt. Not cheering what happens under President Poopy Britches is effectively an act of violence.>>
