Lee County (GA) vs Orlando Dr. Phillips (FL)

Recommended Posts

Anyone have info on Lee County?

Dr. Phillips will be good once again. There is currently a QB battle going on, and the offensive line needs work, but Brandon Fields (RB) is one of the top 2020 ball carriers in the country and the WR core is very deep. The defense returns five starters (the twins, Dix, and 39 combined sacks return) and has benefited from two impact transfers.

Overall this DP team will be at about the same level as last year's team, with a stout defense and a younger but overall more talented and deeper offense.

DP has a spring game vs Winter Park (2 straight 8A elite 8's) in two weeks and will play a Kickoff Classic against Kissimmee Osceola in August.

Osceola is a pretty physical team. Hopefully they stay healthy before going North.

Calpreps sneak peek has Lee County 10th in Georgia and Dr Phillips 32nd in Florida. Plus the game is in GA. Lee County should make quick work of them.

nvm

Both teams lose a bit but I won't count Dr Phillips out

Whether FL wins or loses i respect fact Lee County taking on a good FL team and not some slappy like others have played

Decent schedule also. 6a not that strong last year overall. Interested in seeing how Lee does.

Let's use some Board logic.....

A.  Rush and the Packers aren't worth a spit and have never done anything nationally

B.  Lee County has never beaten Rush

C.  Therefore; Lee County ain't worth discussing against a MONSTER like Dr. Phillips.

As a side note only:  Rumor has it they will fight you...or at least their chain guys will.

Yes I haven’t heard many specifics on Lee. Seems like most people are in the dark.

Lee won a state championship in a weaker/down 6A last season.

Just like most other south Georgia publics, they don't see a lot of transfer activity, so they just try to develop and go with them they've got. They lost some talent to graduation and are probably going to be off a bit from what they had. I'm guessing more or less because of no immediate connection to them, but, I get little info here and there.

Seems like the south Georgia publics have cycles of about 2 years. 2 years good/great 2 years rebuilding/recovering.

Lee, Colquitt, Camden, now Valdosta, and Lowndes have been trying to get better at developing through nutrition, state of the art facilities and cutting edge training and coaching. Region 1 is doing what they can to compete with the big market schools where transferring/moving in is more common. Maybe we could see some change to that cycle due to that. It seems like there is a decent chance these development programs could build a deeper organization.

I'd expect a decent game from Lee. Not sure how much stock one can put into the early CP 10th place projection. It doesn't seem too far fetched though. They may be on par with Dr. Phillips or they could be better.

Should be a good game imo.

You weren't around for that thread a couple of years ago when Colquitt's Coach Sutton had to cold cock a Lee County chain guy after Colquitt fans  started rubbing it in on Lee after all their pregame chatter and build up?

He got suspended for a game.

You are officially out of touch. I'm disappointed in you.

During the Lee/Worth County game, Lee routed a pretty decent small team in Worth County at Worth County. There was a video posted online of the Lee fans chanting "We Want Colquitt!" at the end of that game.

Well, Colquitt weren't no Worth County and it turned out they didn't really want Colquitt.

Colquitt give 'em what they got. A good ol' south Georgia country ass whoopin'.

Colquitt fans got to chanting in jest, "We Want Colquitt!" as Lee fans were shrinking into the bushes.

The chain guys were Lee fans of course, and I think there was some little jawing back and forth between those chain guys and Colquitt coaches.

Coach Sutton supposedly accidentally stepped on the chain as the guys were moving it for, yep, you guessed it, another Colquitt County FIRST DOWN!, and the guy pushed Coach Sutton in the chest. Coach promptly handled that business and both men were escorted away.

We Want Colquitt! We Want Colquitt!

Damn I love me some South Georgia High School Football! You boys have no idea how awesome it is. Even on bad years it's some of the most fun you can have.

If DP is at the same level, they'll win.

Lee Co. lost a good many starters. I did something a couple months ago, after I heard about this game, telling how many players in Lee Cos. O & D rotation were returning. I remember like 3 of 14 on O, and like 5 of 16 in the D rotation return.

I can check again I suppose.

Lee Co. will NOT be at their 2017 level, but they'll still be a good team... In the 150-250 range nationally Id expect.

But really you never know, Georgia is much more unpredictable than most states...

That said... I thought Dr. Phillips was suppose to be a little down also? Maybe not down, but rebuilding...

Peope have been familiar with Colquitt since Rush Propst arrived... 2008..

Y u lie such?

They may not  have been thought of as a national power from 2008-2011 like they are now... But Colquitt has been known to be good since Propst got there.

Ive been around since the Rivals days also... And Colquitt made the RivalsHigh Top 100 list in '11, '12, & '13.

Dont believe they made it in 2010, because of the 5-5 regular season and losing to the eventual National Champs 65-35 (no other team scored more than 13 vs SP all year)... 65-35 aint a bad loss to the National Champ by comparison of what Ive seen recently.

I elaborated a little further down. Yes, there was a chain crew/coach scuffle for a brief moment on the sideline.

I miss Coach Sutton already. He's the new head coach over at a Birmingham school. Clay-Chalkville.

Lot's of history getting hashed out down here still.

The fans and kids never forget. Even if the coaches change, the fans teach them the history lessons pretty quickly.

DP will be about the same as last year. They have loads of talent in the 2020 and 2021 classes that will sustain them for a few years.

You more than likely read the Sentinel article that said they graduate a lot. That’s true, but again, it’s the young crop that many are banking on.

Dr. Phillips usually reloads; this may or may not be at state caliber level, but good enough to make a deep playoff run.

They always have a core group of athletes returning and usually get a few key transfers to round things out. That's they way it's been since Wells took over head coaching duties.

How have DP, Osceola and Lee done against So Fla teams !! Ie STA, MC,BTW,!AHP and like that,.

They've held their own I'd say.   Not there yet though.   One of the better games was Miami Central vs Dr. Phillips 2010 state championship game.   Can't find any set of highlights only individual clips.

I'd love to see a replay of this one.

I looked back...

Lee Co. had 14 main contributors on offense, 4 of them return... Only 2 of their starting 11 actually return... Their Left Guard, and 1 WR. They lose their QB, and lose 2 of 3 RBs they used a lot. They lose 3 of 4 WRs (the 1 WR they return was a Freshman last year, Chauncey Magwood), and they lose 4 of 5 on the OL.

The D had 16 rotating contributors ... 6 of those 16 return. But they lose all the highly ranked guys. Of the starting 11, 4 return.

So 6 of 22 starters return.

Theres really no telling what to expect from Lee Co. .... Especially on offense essentially replacing everyone. Jase Orndorff was a good QB and they had good depth at RB. Now they have 1 good RB, 1 good WR, 1 OL and not much else.

The D lost a lot of star power, but that'll be their strength still.
