2018 State trending

This thread will discuss the positive or negative trending of the various states.  For California, we will split the state in Nor Cal and So Cal.  For a state to truly properly placed nationally, the Top 3 teams should have relevant OOS games.

Top Positive Trending States

1. Maryland - Powered by St. Johns and SFA and to a lesser extent by Gonzaga and Dematha, MD has made the biggest statement and is positioned to factor big league in the national Rankings

2.  Arizona - Handling Florida teams is becoming routine for this western state that has multiple programs, that have proven ability to compete nationally.

3. So Cal - Home to the Reigning National champions and could also sport the pre season #1 team in 2018.  The high level of coaching combined by an enormous talent pool, and wide open transferring has created an environment for the elite power programs to thrive.

4. Georgia - Recent seasons have shown that the Top programs have staying power, while new progams have emerged.  the 2014 - 2015 final 4 matchups were compelling, with each program being nationally relevant.  The state has continued to trend up in 2016 and 2017.

5.  Nor Cal - Should have two nationally relevant teams in 2018, along with an improving second tier.  The fact that the two top programs will start to play on a regular basis will prove to be an important vetting point from a national perspective.

Top Negative Trending States

1.  New Jersey - Parity and relevant coaching changes has contributed to a negative trend that is picking up speed, and could result in NJ having even less teams in the Top 50 than the low point of 2017.

2.  Texas - While the overall level of play is not trending down,  but the top teams are losing ground nationally to transferred up super teams in other states.

3.  Ohio - The fall of St. Edwards, and the St. X poor showing vs. SJB, triggered a slide that will need some relevant OOS wins to permit recovery. 2017 saw some nationally unknown programs encroach on the turf of the Big 5 which slipped again.

4. Utah - After a few years on the upswing, the OOS losses suffered by their top school Bingham and a slipping OOS schedule by the other top schools, it appears that Utah is on its way back to irrelevancy.

5.  Florida - Not since BTW in 2013 has a Florida team proven to be Nationally dominant for an entire season.  Yes there have been pockets of highlights (STA and Central), their has not been the consist excellence which exemplified Top Florida teams earlier in the decade.  Late season losses by Top teams, and lack or OOS games by undefeated squads, have hurt the state from a national perspective.

Smh get out of here with this garbage

I'm willing to venture a guess that this list is totally irrelevant to the trending topic.

In spite of that being a pretty good list, it does little to dispel the point(s) Sammy put forth in his initial post.

If Florida is trending down after going on the road to beat Bishop Gorman with a 2nd round loser and stomping the number 2 team in California with a garbage STA team who got beat by 3 publics then I want to see what hell is trending up!!!

Mater Dei all star stacks to the point they bitch slap California around for ONE season and all of a sudden the whole state is good??? That's like Vanderbilt getting credit for Alabama winning a title. Lol.

Cali isn't trending up. The team who steals all of Servites and the rest of the So Cal wannabe's players is trending up.

California trending up! LMAO! That's cute

Oy vey....all these linear thinkers.  Smh.

No one said anything about which state is better than which state.  This thread is pointing out trending data,  so each state is competing against their own historical results.

Looking at things from that perspective will help you grasp the concept.  (Everyone wants to ready, shoot, aim)

Lakeland flew to Cali and beat the Cali State Champs.

Jefferson flew out to and demolished some Anaheim team.

So what does home or away matter? Florida teams have played Bishop Gorman 5 times all in Vegas and won 3 of them. And the two losses were against the National Champ.

California invented the excuse.

Its hilarious.

At what points do tards' stop associating 1 football team playing well to the whole state playing well. Its idiotic.

California is 3rd and isnt going up. They are sliding down if anything. Florida and Texas are firm #1 and #2s. And GA is catching #3 while,OH slides back. There is no one close to #5.

I think Georgia has surpassed California for the simple fact the depth is much deeper.

California can all star stack one or two teams but going down the line Cali would start to get embarrassed.

Namebrand teams from Cali like Narbonne, Serra, Carson, Clayton Valley, and Del Oro got the doors blown off by Nevada, Utah and Hawaii teams.

STA limped to 3 losses and ranked 15th in Florida. And they dog walked the number 2 team in California.

DLS finished number 5 in Cali and got a running clock put on them by Bishop Gorman. The same Gorman team who lost at home to a 2nd round loser from "trending down" Florida.

LMAO. You can't make this stuff up. Georgia has much more talented depth than California. A 6 win non playoff team from Florida last year beat a 12 win Cali team. A Florida team who won 15 games in 17 years beat a Cali team this past year.

Georgia over Cali all day
