I admire the AZ guys grasping for anything at this point.  Their season is already down the tubes.

#Chandler

#Saguaro

I've never been about Arizona as a whole getting national attention; I've made it nearly 37 years with minimal contribution from Scottsdale or Chandler and don't feel the least bit obligated to declare allegiance to those programs when they play out-of-state opponents.  I really don't care if Centennial gets acknowledged on the national scene, with one caveat-if you're going to include Chandler, Saguaro, Mountain Pointe in the national conversation Centennial needs to be included in lock-step with those programs.  They are in every sense the equal of all those programs, and in many cases are even better programs (championship count, head-to-head matchups, out-of-state wins, etc) than those schools.  To talk about Arizona on the national stage and not include Centennial as a major player is at best intellectual laziness and at worst making an intentional decision to exclude a program that otherwise checks all the boxes of great, national-caliber prep football programs.

This is the second year in a row where Centennial has taken down a recent national champion program, and the second year in a row where that accomplishment gets marginalized based on officiating, those opposing programs being down, or any other such excuses.  If people want to engage in that they have the right to do so, but in the very least be consistent (and just) when doing so-don't talk about Centennial beating 2017 Aquinas not being a win over vintage STA then at the same time give Saguaro a pass for beating a four-loss Serra team, or Chandler's only out of state wins coming against a 2014 Valor team that didn't win their state title and Valdosta and MNW teams that come from schools with 1700-1900 fewer students.  As odd as it might seem to some I would rather the entire state be marginalized than have what amounts to as uneducated charity votes being tossed to certain schools at the expense of schools with superior resumes.

The reality is Centennial has played four out of state games since 2009, won three of those on the field, and had the fourth (a one-point loss to Poly) flipped to a victory because of the use of an ineligible player.  That's deserving of at least as much recognition as Saguaro beating the likes of Serra and Helix or Chandler managing not to get destroyed by the likes of 2013 SJB or 2017 IMG.

SF is senior heavy. They are big and physical along the LOS on both sides of the ball. They played DLS tough last year at the double-O, and they return most of their team. DLS will win, but it’s going to be a slug fest enroute to their 35-14 victory. DLS will have to earn it. They can’t throw their jocks out there and just expect to win against SF.

Fresno is a 4 hour bus ride. The “experts” are saying that this is the best Buchannon team in a long time, and that it’ll be between them and Central for their section. Apparently, lots of talent on the squad. We shalll see, though. But Just the bus ride alone will make this a tough trip.

Week 2 is in the books and we are starting to get a little more clarity thanks to some big out of state matchups. The weather reeked havoc on game across the eastern part of the country. Some Friday games were postponed and had to be completed on Saturday. Two ranked teams, St. Frances Academy and Good Counsel, had their games canceled. It was a big blow for St. Frances as this was their toughest game of the year. We know the Panthers are a good team but they will be very tough to rank considering their schedule. Another game that had to be finished on Saturday was St. John’s 42-14 win at previously ranked Hoover. We have the Cadets ranked higher than any of the national polls at #2 and after that game we feel a little better about that. The Freedom Bowl and “Gwinnett vs The World” was a bit of a disaster for most of the Georgia teams that participated. Grayson, North Gwinnett and Buford all lost in games that they were considered favorites in. Two of the three teams that beat them, Bergen Catholic and Deerfield Beach, break into the rankings this week. The Crusader make the highest debut at #12. The one Georgia team from those games that impressed was Milton. The Eagles come in at #23 after their 42-17 thrashing of Cardinal Gibbons. North Shore is the other new team in the rankings this week thanks to their victory over Katy.

This week is highlighted by #11 Miami Central heading to Washington DC to play St. John’s. Check out who the experts pick in those games plus the other Top 10 games of the week in the Pickem Contest later this week.

Excellent post.  Centennial AZ has had two outstanding wins vs. Top 10 programs, and been placed on a Tier so will be part of the national conversation.  AZ as a state was trending up over the last two years, but had some unexpected set backs in 2018.  Centennial is now the flagship program from a National perspective.

Centennial earned that win. No question. Play-calling, refs (not saying there was home cooking), mental mistakes, weather, time zones, etc are all part of the game. EVERY game. Centennial did what they had to do to win. Can’t take that away from them. Now...I they could only get rid of their in game announcer ...lol!  Kidding aside, Arizona has some solid squads that can play with the best. Just think about if Hamilton and Brophy ever get their shit together again. 👍

You hit the nail on the head here!... SF on the road will be no walk in the park and Buchannon will be a huge challenge after what is sure to be a very physical close game against The Bishop... DLS s is moving right into the toughest part of their schedule now, nobody has challenged them the first 3 weeks... Looking forward to see how they fair in these next 3 games, and I cant wait to see them play The Bishop in person!

At least you admitted it. You had me going on the Jesuit thing until it was 42-7 at half and we had to send in the Freshman team!

They looked good a the scrimmage. I got duped.

But humor me and let’s see what they do as the season progresses (I’m not holding my breath). They are a veer offense, and they did improve significantly over the course of last season. The games against Folsom clearly examplified that.

No way. they just got blown out against Granite Bay who is a lower tier in the SFL. worst offense within 30 miles. Terrible!

They are done.

What are your thoughts on this Chaminade game on Friday? SoCal posters are separating themselves from them like ants escaping an ant hill!

I think Folsom is gonna win fairly handily. 42-21. Something likely that. Chaminade, although young, will still have athletes and have some size. More athletes than what Folsom sees on a regular basis up here. I see a close game early on, but once Folsom finds its groove, it’ll be over.

The SoCal guys are doing what everyone does when their “state” is threatened....they downplay how good/bad  their team is. Texas did it with ET and Aledo. The Ga dudes do it all day. They cant even keep their “good teams” straight anymore. Lol.

Anyways. No biggie. Folsom will win and it’ll all play out in the up upcoming weeks. 👍

I disagree with the idea that the officials played a role in Centennial's goal line defense, especially since the the broadcast does not show Ragsdale clearly breaking the plain before being down on either carry; second down carry shows him reach over the goal line after his thigh hits the grass, third down the ball doesn't cross until after he's essentially belly-flopped on the turf. To be fair the video also never shows his knee down in either scenario, but frankly that's the point-making statements about blown calls when even the replay is less than overwhelming in its decisiveness is not fair to the kids that busted their tails all summer for the opportunity to be in the thick of a tight contest with a nationally-known program.

[...]

You're right.

Apologies to my Arizona friends.

Well Chaminade-Madonna of course🤣. Seriously, brutha, do you think Chammy will beat Folsom? It won’t be a walk in the park by any means, but I think the devil will prevail in the end. Last year’s Chaminade team may have been different story. From what your guys are saying, Chaminade is young inexperienced this year. But even so, they’d still be a really good team here in NorCal. Like I said, close mostly, then Folsom will pull away at the end. Thoughts?

They are a top 10 team in SoCal, per the LA times.
