That's not saying much with milton since 2 of their starters are in prison. Have to find the team with the recruits when it comes to north georgia sports.

Milton is ranked 13 at best and will be dropping more as the season goes.

The real question is this: Who the hell is paying for them to travel all over the country to play in these tournaments?

These prep and academy teams will play 1 game every 2 weeks is BS.

Example Sidwell Friends girls team who is No1 in maxpreps top 10 in other polls. They play 1 game every 2-3 weeks they get to focus on 1 team say for 20 practices. In the first 10 weeks of the season Sidwell Friends play 5 games. Nothing against them personally but it is an hugh advantage. You take the top public girls team teams like Hoover. Desoto or Duncanville have already played in middle 20 range. As of right now Hoover girls have played 23 games Desoto 23 Duncanville 26. Most will play 35 or more total games.  Private schools may play 14 games all year and are nationally ranked.

Privates normally have 1. Nike 2. NBA player who sponsors the AAU team one of the players are own. 3. The school itself and boosters do it.

Hoover has been to Georgia 3 times and Florida once. Hoover's boosters and fund raisers do it plus parents help. Even on bus it can add up quick.  Say tour bus and 4 nights in a hotel meals and money for things to do can add up.

Does Hoover boy's basketball team ever play in oos tournaments? For a public school, I'd think that it would cost a LOT for them to play in all these oos tourneys the way Milton has been playing in (flights, hotels, meals, etc.)

They play in some tournaments. Issue is these elite tournaments Hoover boys are really not a top 100 team nationally. Boys played in a big deal in Tampa a few years ago played IMG and lost went 1-2.  About 8 years ago boys played in Alaska. Some of the big elite tournaments Hoover boys would get probably get beat bad. Overall our boys have underachieved. We won it in 2015 only title. Only made state/final four 3 or 4 times.  Girls have made final four 15 times winning 7.

Hoover girls have played 10 OOS teams this year and done great.  No matter how good you are if you play enough top 100 teams you are not gonna win them all. Girls without injuries should win it again this year. Only lose 1 starter.

LOL Sidwell didn't set up their schedule to have a month off after beating DeSoto. They had COVID issues and had to cancel their trip to the Nike TOC. The game against DeSoto was their fifth game in eleven days, all against strong opposition.

Anyway, even Richmond got in on the action today:

I think the bigger events usually have sponsors that cover the travel expenses for the teams? It was a big deal a few years ago when LaMelo Ball's team wanted an appearance fee on top of expenses.

Berkmar has already played in the City of Palms in Florida, the Arby's Classic in Tennessee, the MLK event in the DC area, and next weekend they are playing in Quincy, IL, an extremely inconvenient travel destination, against teams from Texas and California.

Nice! Gotta give it to Milton tho. They've definitely held their own against the top teams in the nation. Probably shoulda beat Paul VI (foul trouble/lost by 1) in the Bass Pro semis and IMG (lost by 3) in the City of Palms tournament. Gave Montverde all they could handle as well.

Outside of Desoto and St Paul's  they have not played a top 500 team.

Many teams at the Nike toc had players with covid they left them at home and brought up b team players.

Comparing and bragging about these prep academies beating regular public high schools is pityful. Very few of these prep school are  even real schools don't even have regular classes all are on school by computer. I understand Sidwell Friend is a real school Nancy Reagan, Obama's kids, RFKjr attended. But many are fake schools using religion as front for a sports factory.  You look at the national top 25 normally 18-20 are private non public.  We have one player that has been recruited by these so called prep/academy for years she is rated a 5 star by ESPN and all services.

Sounds like Sidwell Friend needs to step up their covid protocols and get the vaccine.

Outside of a 10 day period from 1st week of November till the 3rd week of January they have played 2 games. Because of this they should not even be in the top 25  much less 1st.  At this rate they may be lucky to play 10 games. To play a 35 games it would take Sidwell Friend a calendar year.

Milton maybe a top 5 national team with the 2 kids in jail. They are a great program.

There are not 500 teams better than Bishop McNamara. Probably not 50.

Sidwell shut down all their athletics for a while before Christmas. Then the DC area had a week-long snow day 😂 at the start of January that led to most games in the area being postponed/canceled. Seriously no one is taking a month between games by choice.

No one around here other than sketchy academies is playing regular season games before Thanksgiving, so IDK what the first week of November has to do with anything. They have eight games in seventeen days starting Monday, including a big-time tournament on ESPN next weekend.

Many states start the first week of November. Duncanville by mid November has played 10 games in  some seasons. Hoovers first game was November 13th. Alabama started this years November 4th.

You are right about bishop McNamara my bad.

Got a link about that tournament. I'm  gonna watch it. Sounds great.

Remind me of when it is.

Not a bad move on the Privates part. these athletes play travel ball and High School.

Practice is a good thing, skills, strength and conditioning, playing too many games is not.

Yea, my daughter lives in DC proper and she has told us about the snow and Covid issues.  It is real.  But of course that doesn't follow the narrative some would like to portray.  Everything must be done their home state way or it is not valid, corrupt, wrong.

Another reason up north to start BB earlier. But in the GHSA mindset if a light dusting of snow happens shut everything down. Sounds like to me the did not want play in the TOC and used covid as an excuse. Other teams played with covid issues a d bought up b team players.
