at what cost?

I did not realize so many, so quickly.  And some the cause of death not revealed.  I wonder if some of the contact restrictions in NJ stemmed in part from this - not saying that is the cause, but might be their concern.

overall the opioid crisis is very bad in NJ....particularly in the suburbs.....do not want to speculate on how these young men passed but at SJR we have two that I can think of...and one was suicide from an opioid addiction....the only common denominator was all of them were high level football players that went on to play in college.

People are dying everywhere from the opioid epidemic. Athletes non athletes.

Reading this article felt like torture. I really can't begin to imagine what it must feel like for a parent to find their kid dead of overdose, or to  blame myself for pushing my child to hard. I truly wish these parents peace of mind.

It has hit every community. I just buried a friend of mine few months ago. Had his problems with drugs and overdosed. Buried my cousin at 26 of an overdose.

I'm gonna say something... read carefully, it ain't hard to figure out...

Are you with me?

These high profile HS programs(& coaches) and these driven families are a big part of the problem.

These players are landing at the college level with overuse injuries.

The players that are drafted or make a team are injured and have incorrect bio-mechanics which leads to collateral injuries.

It is magnified in basketball due to the sports demands on the body.

So there, is part of the issue.

BGW

Not picking on Allen or TX or NJ and frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if there's a click in every powerhouse school we discuss on the forum that abuses in some form, whether it's the state of WA, NE or FL.

At what cost is a valid question.    Saying some students had no problems and it's bs is like someone saying they used Fentanyl successfully a handful of times and had no problems.    Are we to believe that pain only began in the kids college years with using pills and shots?   Was there easier access at some schools vs. others and was the drive to succeed and please the staff (i.e, playing through pain at a premium at some schools vs others or even hiding an injury).

If STA looks like pussies tackling robots and limiting physical tackling preseason and during the season, which may affect their W's and L's so be it.   Parents are in good hands.

The entire culture up there is toxic.

We had clowns like @HSFBfan whining about a New Yorker article that highlighted how STA was trying to limit contact in practice and limit head injuries.

We had clowns like @BigCox bragging about DBP putting opposing players in body bags and having them taken off on stretchers.

That article wreaked of passing the buck and a purposeful attempt by family and coaches to look the other way and pretend that nothing is wrong.

I stand by what I said just like the new rule in NJ will destroy NJ football and set it back against the rest of the country. Liberal politicans destroying sports on a daily basis

There you have it.

A knuckle-dragging buffoon who makes this post in a thread about dead DBP football players.

Disgraceful.

Do you hold every program responsible for players who have died? Just curious

You hold DBP responsible for 2 former players who died in a car accident? Again just curious.
