DeMatha 42 St. Ignatius 0

In the ‘90’s Iggy won two national titles and for more than ten years was often in the conversation of perhaps America’s best high school program.  Chuck Kyle is considered by many to be one of the best (and most successful) high school coaches ever.

Bill McGregor led DeMatha to more USA Today top 25 rankings during his reign than any other school in America except De La Salle.  He was also named by the NFL as national high school coach of the year and arguably his best team, ‘98, was on the back of a box of Cheerios.

Both Kyle and McGregor have continued their excellence for an unheard of, almost 40 years.

DeMatha’s Bill McGregor graduated from Cleveland’s John Carroll University.  And, Bill and Chuck are good, long standing friends.

For the first time these two coaching legends and their teams (both of which are strong) meet.  Iggy is travelling to the D. C. area to play DeMatha on Saturday afternoon at Fed Ex Stadium’s auxiliary field.  I believe this is only the second time in 40+ years that St. Ignatius has travelled this far for a game.  The first was in the late ‘90’s when Iggy and Ohio football were at the top and travelled to Berwick to play George Curry’s several time national champion team.  (I saw the first game of the two game series when St. Ignatius rolled.)

With all due respect to the several recent bi coastal games and their hype, given the history of these incredibly successful programs and the stature of their future Hall of Fame coaches this is as important of a game as any that will be played this year.

This is not about three, four and five star athletes (of which there will be many).  Rather it is about two programs and their creators who have helped shape high school football in America.

This is a must win for Ohio.  Iggy has already beaten Preseason favorite Hoban, and lost by only 7 to State #1 Mentor.  The Iggy Defense is a siv giving up over 75 points in 2 games.   DeMatha offense has scored 30+ in each of the last two games.

Look for De Matha to roll, and some of the more fervent Ohio supporters to be found wandering the streets aimlessly in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

We'll just become scrotum jockeys for transferred-up Cali teams for awhile.

No problem.

Your crusty, old-timey takes might be cute if they weren't so ridiculous.

Who did Dematha score over 30+ on?  They are playing St. Ignatius tomorrow.

https://www.monumentalsportsnetwork.com/football is the link for the live stream of the game. Sorry to be redundant but I am hoping that many on this board have a chance to take a look.  Iggy coming to D.C. to play DeMatha really is a long time coming.

Just providing the link again. The game starts at 2:00pm EST.
