More fun facts

Ah, 1975.

USA Today/US Newswire National Champions...The Loyola Cubs.

More fun facts...1972, Loyola went 0-9 (the Cubs worst record until 2018: 1-9), but their freshman squad went 9-1. (Loyola’s frosh squad went 9-1 and won the Mission League last season).

In 1973, Loyola hired Marty Shaugnessy as head coach and Steve Grady (CIF Player of the Year), as a top assistant.

Steve Grady’s career speaks for itself (1976-2004), as he is the only man to ever earn state Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.

Now in 2019, Loyola has hired Drew Casani (1990 CIF Player of the Year), to guide the storied program back to the top.

Incredible parallels, nearly 50-years later.

It would be nice to see Loyola make a comeback

Of course. The SoCal football landscape has been a two or three team battle for talent lately. It would be nice for a Blue Blood Program like Loyola to regain their elite status.

Loyola for many years was stuck in their ways and wouldn’t join the club.

Now under Drew Casani, Loyola is hosting various combines, position specific camps, and even starting their own club 7on7 team like so many others.

Hell, they even have two junior transfers on their roster this year in a 6’4 215 QB and a 6’4 225 DE.

The Cubs Head Coach was a longtime NFL Scout, so he knows talent when he sees it.

It will be fun to watch this program be rebuilt from the ground up.
