Same here, my story dates to 1985. About 10 years ago, had a buddy insist on buying me $30.00 shot because I'd not had "good" tequilla. Told him not to waste his money, but he kept insisting. Finally appeased him and drank it. I have a story but I still drink tequila. On a new Years eve about 5 year ago, I was at a local dive bar with friends. Bar owners and bartenders are friends of ours......my friend tells me we're doing a shot of a tequila. I agree. The Bartender/owner says the shots are on her if we can keep it down, but we have to shoot it......we agree...she proceeds to pour us both an entire scotch glass full of Patron.
