SJB is finally taking control against Liberty

  • Defense looks great
  • Sanchez at QB looks great (minus the intentional grounding for the safety)
  • Penalties have been atrocious (on SJB, not the refs)
  • Busted special teams play

It's Week 0, the penalties and sloppiness can be addressed. If Sanchez keeps playing like this, we should be in good shape.

SJB 42-22 Liberty F

  • Sloppy game from SJB:
    • 2 kick off returns given up for TDs (one wasn't technically a TD but it was inside the 5)
    • Intentional grounding for a safety
    • Multiple TDs called back on holding calls
    • Maybe like 200+ yards of penalties - it was bad
    • Liberty's single offensive drive was sustained by 3 (maybe 4) penalties on 4th down
  • Liberty's QB #11 and WR #3 are both talented
  • SJB's QB play was a big unknown coming in this year, but it looks promising after tonight
    • Sanchez looked great at QB. He threw several dimes downfield (a few that were called back on penalties).
    • Fuiava got a series in the 4th quarter (game still not technically decided) and he led a great drive and capped it off with a nice TD throw.
    • Pannell also got a series in the 4th but he went 3&O after 2 runs and a dropped pass.
    • It's a nice luxury to have 3 guys with D1 offers

OLU handing it to DLS?  My how fortunes have been reversed.  OLU may be sniffing at CA Tier 2.

Meanwhile Cen10 win over RSM was anything but impressive. Maybe it’s a combination of a new system and playing tougher competition, but thus far Longstreet isn’t living up to the hype.  The offense sputtered.  But, not to take anything away from RSM.  They are well coached, play fundamentally solid, and have some decent speed at skill positions.

RSM did pull a win at West. They are no slouch.

The QB, when he has time delivers a beautiful deep ball, but they have only one legit deep threat type of wideout.  Under pressure he was a little erratic.  They got a nice size TE but don’t direct much at him.  They can throw a few effective backs at you, not bruisers but if they get a crease can rip off 7-10 yds.  They did run a wildcat (which the announcer called “Eagle Cat”), and that formation gave Cen10 problems.  They used it often to extend drives and through the first three quarters were able to chew up time.   Cen10 was able to tire their defense out with a persistent run game in the latter half of the third quarter into the fourth.   Overall, I would put them in the top part of the third tier in CA.   If they can stay out of the 8 team bracket, they might have a shot at D1AA.  They won’t have enough for MD/SJB/or probably OLU.
