This could seriously impact the coming season in many areas-especially with practice beginning. We are approaching two million cases and 110,000 deaths. I also realize that for many areas of the country the virus is not a concern. I have brothers in Pensacola and Daytona who feel that it doesn’t even exist near them. Good luck to all.

I think the government is doing what some other countries did in the beginning and letting people go out at their own risk and hoping they build up an immunity to the virus. I think the deaths are still rising because you have elderly who where stubborn from the start who refuse to stay inside or put on mask. Some may also come from people who don't know they have underlying health problems. Last thing in the deaths I don't think majority of people grasp that when they go out they should avoid coming back home or being in close proximity to the elderly and sick. FootballGuy
I think a lot of people have taken it upon themselves to declare the virus "over." The casinos have opened back up in Vegas, and it's a damn shame to see so many bozos walking around without masks and in each other's personal space n shit. People just don't care at this point. I guess they're gonna have to learn the hard way.... 1

Im pretty sure Ive read where it needs to be a high humidity/heat factor to break down the protein surrounding the virus. Apparently a desert dry heat has little effect.

DarterBlue
Short answer to the topic title, yes. And with the Memorial Day and protests not yet fully baked into the calculus, I expect over the next two to three weeks at least, more states will join the increase.

Yes, many will catch Corona. I generally support the protests, too. And in normal times I would probably have been out there. But I have always tried to control my risk. And I am not ready to die; at least not from this virus. 1

I’ll spread the word to everyone here in Rock Hall, MD 😉 #rightside Waterman’s is arguably the best crab house in Maryland. But there is a different concern inRock Hall than the DC area which is approaching 60,000 now in the metro area. I would suggest that sitting on Waterman’s outdoor deck over the water listening to a 70’s and ‘80’s band while eating crabs, the virus is the last thing on anyone’s mind. My analogy to my brothers I who live in Daytona and Pensacola. I have a lifetime friend in Boynton Beach, my age, who rarely goes out. South Florida is scary now. The comment above about 114 degrees in AZ is scary, too. Humidity is an interesting consideration. Along with South Florida heat and sun can be a false sense of security. Close friend in Tucson and that is growing, too.

For myself and my wife we spent $50 on Amazon in late February for two (2!!) 3M respirators. We use them a couple of times a week while grocery shopping and believe they were a superb investment. We have other masks (and gloves) but still trust these the most.

Several hundred thousand or more on the streets in D. C. today. Any other time I would have been with them. (My earliest demonstrations were in the late ‘60’s here.) Today I watched on television and had a Zoom call with my wife and friends. Respect and wish you the absolute best.
concha
The good news is that deaths per day have declined from a high of over 2,750 to the 721 reported yesterday. The rolling 7-day average is well under 1,000 with a declining trend.
