I didn't pay attention that the year of Marietta's first championship was 1967 - 53 years ago. Since Lowndes first season was in 1966 the comparison of champs during both school's tenure is still valid but the statement of 50 years is wrong. I picked the 50 years part of it from Ga96's statement that conveniently excluded one of Marietta's champs. So they had to play Valdosta in their first 20 years. That doesn't mean they couldn't perform well. Does the whole definition of performing well hinge on beating Valdosta and not take into account the rest of their season? Could they not perform well for all of the rest of their games? We certainly had high performing teams in our region during our first 20 years and still managed to do okay. I believe his focus right now is on correcting some of the ills that had crept in over the past several years. Let him get a few seasons under his belt here and then we can see. He impresses me when I talk to him as being very competitive and I would think without putting words in his mouth that once he feels comfortable that those issues are resolved he will seek high level competition.
